Thailand Golf Travel Mart 2018 being held in Phuket

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is hosting golf operators from international markets to meet with suppliers at the Thailand Golf Travel Mart 2018 with the catch-phrase ‘World Class Golf Destination’.

 

The event is being held in Phuket from July 23-26 and hosted by Phuket Governor Prakob Wongmaneerung, Public Relations Director of TAT Thanet Petchsuwan and golf, tour, and hotel operators around the world at the Duangjitt Resort and Spa in Patong.

Golf is a dying sport.
I was reading that worldwide it's seen a 60% drop in participation since 2002.
People just don't have the time like they used to.
Land prices around the globe have pushed up fees was another factor.

Where did you get your stats from ?   I agree there has been a drop in popularity but not to that extent . Golf courses are still being built around the world and the sport is taking off big time in China and if their figures were included there would be a growth figure .

I think it was Forbes magazine.
I read it in the airport lounge in Singapore.
It touched on things like shortening the courses to all par 3's to bring the sport back. Much like cricket did to the twenty over format.
Japan saw the biggest decline in participation in the world.
America was 2nd.
