Proven way to get rid of Geko's

Featured Replies

I don't mind sharing my domain with Geko's inside and outside the house, but the little buggers have been sheeeeting all over the back of my car and its really starting to peeeee me off, i.e. they are hanging around the eaves above my car and bombs away, with me having to wash it off every morning.

If anyone has any proven ways of getting rid of them from the eaves areas, would be interested to hear.

Thanks in advance

Cover your car.

If is not the geckos it will be birds next.

The house we are in now is like swarming with different birds.  Don't know the reason why they like our house, but there are hundreds of sparrows, dozens of mynah birds and doves too.  They love to sit on the car and look at themselves in the mirrors, pooping all over the car, motorbikes, bicycles, windows, and throwing rubbish and sticks about all over the patio.  I

I will swap my birds for you geckos if you want.

Seriously, if one of the big Tokay geckos moves in, I found they are the very best to get rid of the many little ones.  The Tokay loves to snack on the smaller species.  Maybe you can hope one of the big ones moves in soon.

They can get into "waterproof" electrical boxes so a screen isn't going to help much.

They don't like mothballs, so a few of the big ones in strategic locations may help, or a car cover.

Their poop is bigger ?

Would it be cruel to kill a gecko? Genuine question.

In my opinion I'd have to say it was wrong unless it was done for purposes of eating.

Thet're definitely useful and beneficial even if their poop is annoying.

But then again, I wouldn't kill a spider  either.

The only thing I have found that not only kills geckos, but really turns them off, and gets them to move on is insect spray. I have had huge geckos in my home before. They are hard to catch. I sprayed them directly on the face with an ample amount of insect spray, and it seemed to really dull them and slow them down. I was then able to clobber them, and exterminate them. It also helps to lead them either out of the house, or in a direction where they can be captured. The spray will kill smaller geckos if you use enough of it. It also seems to be a bit of a deterrent, as they seem to really hate the smell of the stuff.

Are you willing to eat beef or pork? Or chicken? Why would killing a gecko be any crueler than being responsible for the death of a cow, or a pig? They seem to be nothing but a nuisance, between the noise they make, and the mess they make. I have no issues about killing as many as I can find!

They can be expensive! one just fried the inverter on a AC unit ~4,500 baht to replace ?

If you mean the big ones, certainly not. We've had such creatures for several years just outside our bedroom. Wife tried all sort of 'human' ways to get rid of them, the latest was 'rat glue' on a piece of cardbore (recommended by a Thai friend) taped on the wall. The result was when the wall got heated up by the sun, the glue was running down the wall from the cardbore. Net result: she wanted the wall repainted. So, I had enough of this and told thewife that now it's going to be done the farang way. I armed myself with ant spray named ARS (recommended by the way) and a bamboo stick. Killed 8! of them in two days. No more geckos and wife is happy and never mentioned the 'farang way' of doing things.

For all those who say they have value eating bugs is silly.  They do not eat enough to even make a difference. They are a nuisance around homes with their noise and crap everywhere.

I routinely "off" them. One way to deter them a bit is a mix of Windex and water. Just spray on them and they stay away for awhile.  I usually swat them with one of  our Thai yard brooms and it does the trick quick. Just keep the pressure on them and they will seek easier places to live.

Now, if only I could train my gecko to do that !

cats seem to enjoy killing them, I don't notice any in the house since I let the cats in

But then you might have pawprints on your car

Teach them how to dance and they'll change their behaviour.

You nasty man you! I have been told by my wife to leave all our geckos alone as they are good luck. I would never spray them with insect spray and/or kill them. I do try to catch them and put them out though. Catching them without tail detachment is quite a feat.

I see cats eating them, but I'd prefer geckos in my house than cats.

install a bright energy saving lamp in a place outside where the geckos do not disturb you. Let the light burn over night. the geckos like to hunt in the light at night.

Cats do like eating the small ones. However, frying pans and fires comes to mind.

I've seen gecko repellent spray, doubt if it's actually effective

Look out for the bill if they get zapped, last one cost me 2,700 baht to replace the board within the air conditioner, the Geko was as fried as could be, 3 days waiting for the part without an A/C wasn't nice at night when your used to having it on.

Yes 180 reluctant baht later, the wife said you were right honey, yes, once again I said, it's a mix of Windex and water just marketed to idiots like me who will try it once based on wife's recommendation.

I think insect spray with a lighter at the end might do it, if it will reach the 5 metre height, although worried about the house catching fire.

Perhaps a slingshot with an infrared light on it will help ?

For God's sake!   Send the  little   basta*d a bill.      I'll bet it was merely  an accident on his part. ?
