they are not tourists. they are Beach Road freelancers taking a quick rinse. :cheesy:

"The (Chinese?) tourists in the photo are walking from their boat to Beach Road". Chinese freelancers on beach road? Well better there than in the "all you can eat" buffets.:cheesy:

The beach restoration near North Pattaya which has been touted is already a disaster- ruined by heavy rain and flooding.  Until flooding is controlled and a waste plant established everything else in Pattaya infrastructure is a waste of money.

Pattaya needs a huge  amount of money for basic infrastructure- floods, clean water, roads and proper policing  and controlled growth  before embarking on more massive tourism. Thailand keeps thinking it can continue to replace disgruntled tourists (Westerners) with tourists from other areas (China, Middle East).  They haven't figured out that other countries are actually investing in their prime tourist areas and in the end Thailand will be left with an empty beach and hotels.

Pattaya at one time was the pristine preferred beach area in  Asia. Greed, corruption and a complete lack of planning has turned it into a cacophony of unman-aged chaos.

Maybe start with the basics ?

Like that total disaster zone connection between beach "walk" and walking St. Construction trailer trash mess, caved in areas, sewage outfalls, narrow lowlife obstructed walking.

All they need to do to re-vitalise Pattaya is to recognise and accept what built it in the first place, then make it a special zone and publicise that.  The place is already world famous for that one thing, which brings in a LOT of money (much of it doesn't get taxed at POS though, which, IMO is why the government is so down on it), just go with what you have, why change what works?

Good sewers would be nice though,

And the junta Rip Van Winkle dreams continues.

1. Eastern Economic Corridors.

2. Advanced technology in aviation and automation.

3. 1.5 trillion baht in infrastructure.

4. New airports.

5. High speed rail lines.

6. New roads.

7. Improved connectivity.

Who can possibly believe this garbage? They have achieved nothing in four years. They simply do not have the ability to pull it off. Plus they are no longer self reliant on energy to be able to do it. They have to rely on the dodgy Laos power supply which will be their downfall.

These are all very real actually, only thing is most of it bypasses Pattaya.

If you read the whole article it is total propaganda.

Interesting points though. New Tram system. So you don't need to improve the pavement or sidewalks. You don't even need to fix the sewerage system. You can ride around 2 ft above all the floating crap.

It doesn't really say who is paying for all this either?

I think its the government paying for the rail link. Correct me if i am wrong but i read somewhere that there is an issue over the wording of the actual tender. Low and behold only 2 or 3 companies will be able to bid on it, They have to meet the criteria specified and outlined in the document.

This means that winning bid is already decided for sure. Classic corruption or a Golden Handshake before the possible coming election. I know this. I have had enough legal and compliance training to last 10 people a lifetime. A little known fact is that 80% of tenders are already decided before the document is even released publicly.

I would be very, very surprised if it isn't awarded to the Chinese or a Thai/Chinese consortium. The senior members in the tender committee and their masters will all have nice little bank books from the Bank of China in Bejing.

Yeah the tourists will all come to look at our new motorways and nice new shiny trains and new deep water harbour full of sewage. They already flood to see our super shopping malls where nobody buys our overpriced goods, and they stand and admire our towering empty condo  blocks we can’t  even give away. Whilst we kill off the real reason most tourist found Pattaya in the first place. Street vendors, Markets, Restaurants, Bars and general good fun entertainment. Mugs.

"The EEC is centered around the development of advanced technology in industries such as aviation and automation."

Yet according to another poster on another thread, "Europe is in a mess" and Thailand are better qualified to run their own country without outside help!

Oops - spot the deliberate mistake!

Don't worry, in the new revitalized pattaya they will make public showers at the beach everywhere...also low taps to wash your feet.

There will also be Public Toilets that are free of charge to use and are clean, and hygienic.

These will be monitored every 2 hours and cleaned, to enhance the Tourist Experience.?.

What Pattaya needs to do is replace, and imprison all of the local and provincial politicians, and find decent people who are local, give a damn about the province and the city, and are willing to live on a good salary and not fleece the public. Fresh blood and new ideas. And keep them under the control of a federally chartered CPA. The billions of baht that have been siphoned off, that could have been used for waste treatment, infrastructure improvement, etc, would magically re-appear.

Im not so sure all the Billions of baht that have been trousered will reappear, but for sure a lot would not be trousered if fresh blood were introduced into the Pattaya City Authority.

Well, not for a week or two at least

If they want to attract tourist they could pick a few off this list;

Propper drainage to prevent flooding

Effective traffic control

Sidewalks that can be used by humans

City planning

Enforced safety on tourist traps like boats, rides and hotels

Professional policing

I'm sure there are plenty more for the list.

Legal Taxis?

They have achieved a huge amount of infastructure nationwide.. Massive so that blows you into the dirty water of Pattaya.

Nationwide maybe ( read Bangkok ), but nothing has changed re infrastructure in Pattaya, nor will it as long as the present officials are in charge.

If they actually want to make a difference, allow farangs to own businesses and the land they stand on in a Pattaya zone. Presently, there is no reason for farangs to make the necessary commitment to do anything.

Personally I hope nothing changes as I'm enjoying the spectacle of all the greedies seeing their plans of milking the place come to naught, due to incompetence, stupidity and corruption.

You omitted the real reason Pattaya today exists. Most of us know what that is.

Are those Chinese tourists wadding through sewerage?

The Chinese are new to this international tourism game but they'll learn fast.

I can't see the Chinese  putting up with this crap in LOS  too much longer.

Billions of dollars of infrastructure projects?  30% of all monies go straight into brown envelopes so the project is already on the backfoot before it even starts.

Where did all the money go on the beach rejuvenation project.  Was there an audit ?   LOL  LOL LOL

They cant even build a decent ferry to take people out to a few silly islands.
