you need to broaden your horizons a bit, there are rooms for 3-4000 Baht a month, might not be the standard in what we consider to be 'apartment' or livable. Some cheap charlies westerners do live in many of these room rental place

these rooms are not advertised at the real estate agent

some business provide dormitories for their staff too

It's just like anywhere else in the World.  You rent what you can afford.  If you are a low income Thai, you rent something very cheap and maybe have a roommate sharing expenses.   One of our tenants was a Thai pharmacist.  She could afford to rent our Lumpini condo rental at 10,000 Baht a month.  Great tenant by the way.

The average thai salary is between 9000-12000 baht, the rent in pattaya  is 10000baht.

Where did you get your figures from?

I know teachers in Bangkok paying 2500 baht for a room with air con . A clean room , and even a small balcony outside to do cooking .

So this is the standard that most Thais are used to , with a salary of 10k , let's say 2 Thais live together and they can afford both the rent and smart phones and whatever they eat .

it is customary to give a link if you want that kind of statement to be taken at face value.....

Google is a search engine not a source but whatever
