webfact
The world’s riskiest place to visit, if you’re British By The Thaiger & The Nation PHOTO: worldatlas.com If you’re British, where in the world is the riskiest place for you to visit? New research by Endsleigh Insurance Services has unveiled the world’s riskiest holiday destinations. Thailand has been found to be the world’s riskiest holiday destination for British tourists, according to a new report. The report looked at data from 2017, ranking countries on where the most insurance claims were made and Thailand came out on top. The report found that Thailand accounted for 23 percent of travel insurance claims made in 2017 – more than any other country. Travel insurance claims included emergency medical expenses, damaged luggage and flight cancellations. Popular Post z42
As a Brit here I don't feel overlg at risk compared to many other places. Generally speaking though I have enough smarts and experience here to just about keep me out of bother. That said, luck and good timing also play just an important a role imo. The roads are the riskieat part of the whole thing, and generally speaking, the range of the activities available here not only make it such a wonderful place to visit but also open up a traveller to a whole host of extra dangers both clear and less obvious 9
Popular Post ezzra
What the report doesn't tells you is how many tourist visit Thailand compared to say, Timbuktu, the more tourists and the more choices for activities, some risky, like riding a motorcycle that other countries does not allow tourists to partake in, the more mishaps one would find his/herself in one would think...

dotpoom
If a particular person/ nationality has a particular problem internationally.. then it is logical to conclude that the problem lies within that person.....rather than within the area or citizens where they choose to visit. 2
Popular Post Brigante7
The problem is, most Brits under 30 are thick as shit and have no concept of what is going on around them, to busy with their heads stuck in their phones. Every country in the world has danger spots and unless you are paying attention then before you know it you are up the creek without a paddle. Popular Post bubba
These numbers are based on total number of claims made by country and are statistically meaningless. For example, Chile is listed as the #2 "riskiest" country. How many people took holidays in Chile as compared to Thailand? Also, do baggage issues and cancelled flights qualify as making a country "risky"? Looks to me like this is a nice, splashy publicity article geared toward selling more travel insurance policies. 17
Popular Post JAG
It probably is risky if you ride around on a hired scooter with no licence, (therefore likely no previous experience either in the UK or Thailand), drink buckets of dodgy vodka on the beach and then sleep it off where you flake out, and leave your luggage in unsecured hostel rooms. As a Caucasian, you are 20x more likely to die while on holiday in Thailand than you are likely to die while on holiday in Europe. This has been a quietly published statistic for a long time. Hard to pin down 'why', as the causes of death listed by the Thai authorities aren't to be trusted. Probably a combination of poor medical care, binge drinking, driving m/cs without a licence and murderous criminals. Most of the other dangerous places in the world aren't seen as holiday destinations by foolish western youths.
Popular Post Peterw42
There is a clinic in Patong with a big sign out the front that says "hangover treatment, claim on insurance", nothing more than some aspirin and a saline drip for an hour, gets rid of the headache and rehydrates. Its not cheap and billed straight to your insurance company. I imagine that contributes to the many claims made in Thailand. 1 1

crazykopite
12+ years here and I have never felt unsafe infact I feel safer here than walking the streets of London wherever you go luggage can be damaged and flights delayed or cancelled , my wife flew from Bangkok to Manchester last week everything was fine until she got to Heathrow only to find her onward flight to Manchester was cancelled and she would have to wait 48 hours so the daughter had to drive 200+ miles to collect her and yes her AXA Thai insurance will meet all the additional costs !

Daveyh
My experience here with tourists is that they are definitely not "street wise" & the added danger of tourists walking, riding motorcycles etc whilst using mobile phones is a real problem. Yesterday I witnessed a touristin Bangkok nearly walking off the Skytrain platform reading emails!! You see it everyday here ............. & Thailand is definitely the wrong place to do it ......... not looking where you are going is fatal! Cars will not stop if you walk into the road, motorbikes ride on pavements .......... so you really need to have your wits about you at all times ................ christ, they don't even stop at traffic lights & zebra crossings!! I think Thailand has got to be up in the "top ten" countries where tourists on holiday are taking massive risks by coming here. Health & safety does exist here, but it's not enforced anywhere near as rigid as european countries ............ it's a country where the risks are "up to you".... fact. Popular Post Runamile
Endsleigh is still essentially a student insurance company, including travel insurance. For the most part it deals with the student demographic - young, not worldly-wise, the naivete often causing them to over-extend themselves. They are also likely concentrating expenditure on hedonistic pursuits that might bring elevated danger and spending relatively low on accommodation, which brings with it insecure accommodation. The study is irrelevant to a broader adult demographic.
