My wife's 5 year visa will soon run out.  I have emailed UK Embassy/Trendy with two questions; 1 Is there such a thing as a TEN year tourist visa?  She has one for USA.  2 Do we have to go through the whole rigmarole again or is there a facility for renewing?

The 5-year validity of Thai passports can be a problem if one doesn't want to carry the extra passport on any UK trip. After consecutive  2-year visit visas, Mrs NL had the option of getting either the 5 or 10-year one but decided on another 2-year one as her passport had 3 years remaining. A fair bit cheaper too!

I understand that Thailand started issuing 10-year passports this year so maybe after she renews that, she will get the 10-year visa as it's not too much more than the 5-year one.

Single - £93

2 years - £350
5 years - £636
10 years - £798

Your wife will have to make a new application online / VFS.

She can choose how long validity to choose from as per the above post, if she opts for a 10 year visa, then she must make sure that she keeps the passport the visa sticker is in, even after it expires, so that this can be presented along with the new passport when entering the UK, it is no problem that it is in an expired passport, so long as the visa is still valid.

If traveling often, then a 10 year one is by far the best value for money.

As has been pointed out each application is treated on its own merits, though previous travel history will be taken into consideration as will the need to travel over a longer period.
Without wishing to be pedantic, it’s not a ten year tourist visa it’s a long term visit visa which would normally be applied for by business travelers, though tourists who can demonstrate the need to travel over a ten year period can of course apply and have been successful.
