Exclusive: Trump worries that Mueller interview could be a 'perjury trap'

Featured Replies

It is a good idea to read a little on what constitutes perjury.   Perjury charges are rare because it is difficult to prove.   A person has to KNOWINGLY and  WILLINGLY made false statements in a legal setting. The statement must also be materially relevant to the case.   It's far from being a he said/she said situation, or a mix-up or misstatement.   It's not a situation where someone says the meeting was on Tuesday and it was on Wednesday etc..   The standard for perjury is very high.

Making a false statement to the FBI is not the same as perjury.

The fact that the president and his attorney are worried about it means that the president has no intention of being honest.   It also means that they know the evidence is there to show he knows the truth.

Somebody used to telling countless lies will be well aware of being had up for perjury.

  • There's no obligation to give Mueller an opportunity to to set a perjury trap.

  • Not if you tell the truth.

"trump" has a real problem. It's not about perjury. It's about GUILT.

A ‘perjury trap’ isn’t the real reason Trump won’t answer Mueller’s questions

...

The explanation they are offering — that such an interview would be a “perjury trap” — is simultaneously ridiculous and all but an admission that the president of the United States is guilty of something. But most of all it’s disingenuous, because perjury charges are not what they’re really afraid of.

Trump's mouth is a perjury trap, and he still hasn't learned to keep it shut.

Shades of that old lawyer joke...

"How do you know trump is committing perjury?"
