Hope floats for Chalong Underpass opening by April

They seem to be working very quickly at the moment. They were working in the dark last night at around 8:30 when I passed and plenty of workers were there at 7:30 this morning.

So fast are they working that they've done 38 days work in the last 12 days. Yes, the sign states that a mere 181 days remain until the grand opening; it was 219 on October 20th.

At this rate we'll be driving underneath Chalong Circle by the end of the year!

Maybe they have deadline to get the circle open again.

All they have to go is lay the short concrete 'bridge' and they can open the roundabout. Should be done very soon.

They'll run out of money again and your hope will float away.

Huh, when did they run out of money?

Probably the last time the project went into hibernation.

You do understand stevenl that with building projects, funds are normally paid in installments ?

You suppose they earlier ran out of money, so make the statement you hope it doesn't happen again, and when asked about that try to question the knowledge of the person asking the question.

I very much doubt they ran out of money.

It seems to be taking an epic amount of time to get the concrete in place so they can open the circle again. It was originally supposed to take 2 months. That despicable excuse for a road that runs from the circle past Home Pro is an absolute disgrace to the contractor & those who oversee the project. Traffic can be diverted & work undertaken during the night to fix that stretch.

The circle was supposed to be reopened mid November.

This has been superseded by the latest announcement that it will be ready by April 2019.  Don't hold your breath.

Not talking about tunnel being open, talking about tunnel bridge being open over tunnel. Bridge should have been finished by now in my opinion and circle open,

I've been away for a few days but saw yesterday that they've now opened a  u-turn before Homepro. The number of days remaining board had lost a number so it reads 1 3.

I planned to use that u-turn today. But it was roped off. Looked like reserved for construction traffic.

Looked like most of the concrete tunnel deck has been laid. Much digging out in fast progress. I see no reason why road through circle can be open soon. Looks like they are constructing something in middle of new circle. Maybe small tower ?

I also wonder why they've left it this long to change the traffic flow around Homepro, with right turns only next to the Italian place and the other two roads left int Chaofa West. Preparation for some other surprise maybe or just the police taking three months to decide it might be better?

There must be huge monetary losses to local business because of the works & possibly some have had to shut down

Roger that. For many kilometers each side of circle. That Food for Falangs place is taking a hit. For me I have to give it a miss unless really need their food. Tesco next to circle is dead.

That Tesco was dead the moment a reasonable size Supercheap opened next door. And I still see lots of movement at that Supercheap whenever I pass (nearly every day).

The other day that Tesco had only half dozen cars parked but it competition from Makro, Supercheap & the bigger Tesco on West out paid to it. I spoke with the battery shop owner on the entrance to Kan Eng 2 who told me his business is way down, manager at SCB said business was down. Supercheap has its own special U turn which helps but the car park used to be quite full & does not seem to be so now
