Male Breast Reduction Surgery

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a surgeon to correct my gynecomastia.

I've consulted Dr. Somboon in Chiang Mai and he quoted me 150,000 baht for the surgery.

This seems expensive so I'm looking for other options.

Comments and suggestions on the above would be appreciated.

Cheers

According to Google, the average cost for gynecomastie surgery in the US (2017) was about $3,800 so yes, your quote from the Doctor in CM seems rather high.

Just for comparison, why don't you email Bangkok Christian Hospital in Bangkok, a very decent but reasonably priced facility.  See what they quote for the same procedure.

What type of procedure specifically is being considered? Liposuction or mastectomy? It makes a big difference to the likely cost.

And has the diagnosis been confirmed i.e. fatty tissue (pseudogynecomastia) and breast cancer (which can, rarely, occur in men) already been ruled out? Most "man boobs" are not true gynecomastia.

Assuming it is true gynecomastia has medication already been tried? Many cases will respond to aromatase inhibitors and/or testosterone, as the condition reflects an underlying hormonal imbalance. Surgery would be a last resort.

Taking testosterone supplements to treat gynecomastia cause by the infamous Finasteride could have some interesting effects, couldn't it?

Thanks for your replies. The procedure described by Dr Somboon involves a combination of liposuction and mastectomy. I just assumed that my condition was called gynecomastia, so "man boobs" is probably a better description. I've had this condition for over 40 years and it's getting worse with age. Exercise doesn't help, and now that I'm living in Thailand, where most surgery appears to be much cheaper, I've decided to do something about it. The quote given was for the procedure to be done at Rajavej Hospital. This was the cheapest option. I was told that to have it done at Ram Hospital or Bangkok Hospital would cost over 200,000 baht. As well as having the procedure done by a competent surgeon, I'm also looking for the best price, and the quote does seem to be higher than other prices I've seen online.

A mastectomy is necessary only if there is actual breast tissue as opposed to the usual "man boobs" of fat. And if that is the cade endocrine investigstions and possible hormone treatment would usually be tried first.

If it is just fat then lipo aline would do it, and can be gotten for much less than you were quoted, thst price is high because of the mastectomy.

However if Dr. Somboon examined you and said mastectomy needed as well as lipo then likely you have actual breast tissue.

I suggest you see an endocrinologist for tests of hormone leveks and possible hormone therapy. You might be able to avoid surgery.
