Drunk as a skunk! Thai driver sleeps it off after GPS leads him into rice paddy

A Thai driver from Korat admitted to rescue services that he was so drunk that he couldn't understand his GPS and drove into a rice paddy.

He kept going despite the wheels getting increasingly bogged down around his Mazda 3.

Then he could go no further. So he decided to sleep it off and get help in the morning.

Except that he slept so deeply that he dozed through the morning and it was afternoon before help arrived.

Rescue services and locals were amazed that the driver - on his way from  Korat to Waeng Noi district of Khon Kaen - had got so far into the paddy.

The driver, aged about 45, said he had drunk a lot and didn't know the way to Waeng Noi.

It took them an hour using wooden planks to get the car out of the paddy.

No mention of police was made in the Thai Rath story.

Drunk or not, perhaps next time he should concentrate on looking out of the windshield and not his GPS.

Though sometimes helpful, these electronic gizmos are no substitute for good old fashioned driving skills.....Of course it is highly debatably if any kind of driving skill actually exists here!

I wonder if he will have to compensate the farmer?

Lock him up for five years for being a Moron; he should have enough time to sober up.    But no; 500 Baht will see to it that the whole thing is laughed off at the local Cop Shop !
