Normal health checks are often listed on hospital websites with full details and prices.  But as with anything it is the doctor reviewing results that is key so if specific concerns might be best to provide as many details as you are comfortable with as moderator/members can then make more specific recommendations.

For detailed cancer checks MRI or CT may be required and CT (although maybe cheaper) will equal radiation exposure so normally not used without valid concerns.  I have had cancer and a number of CT scans but in 70's so not too concerned with residual radiation issues but for someone of that age expect there would be more concern.

As I recently was at Pattaya International Hospital (on an another matter) here an arbitrary example of health check offers:

http://www.pih-inter.com/images/checkup/20180705155640.pdf

(don't be confused, English is on the first two pages, the rest are other languages)

Compared to prices I remember at a private hospital in Khon Kaen I find the prices quite steep. But I am certain that Bangkok Hospital can excel these

MRI and CT are NOT recommended for routine health screening of any asymptomatic person and may do far more harm than good.

At age 30 unless there are specific symptoms or family history the only cancer check indicated would be a pap smear and a manual breast exam. Mammograms not recommended at that age but if she has a family history of breast cancer then would be.

Be wary of blood tests for various "tumor markers" (CEA, AFD, CA-125 etc). These tests are not sufficiently specific to be useful for screening, lost of false positives which in turn lead to further unnecessary invasive tests (exactly why private hospitals like them) and these in turn do more harm than good.

All the private hospitals offer check up packages. that includes Bangkok Rayong and Bangkok Chantaburi hospitals as well as several hospitals in Pattaya.

If you meant government hospitals I am not sure they offer this.

Do get the pap smear though and repeat every couple of years. When she is older add to it a mammogram.

Rather than starting my own thread, I thought I might as well use this one.

I am scheduled for a health check and the check covers the following items which are covered by my office. However, I can add other tests and pay form them myself.

1 PE

2 Chest X-ray

3 Urine Analysis

4 Complete Blood Count

5 Fasting Blood Sugar

6 Cholesterol

7 Triglyceride

8 HDL-C

9 LDL-C

10 SGPT

11 SGOT

12 BUN

13 Creatinine

14 AFP

15 EKG

16 Uric Acid

I am a 55 year old male, going on 56, and overall am quite healthy. I don't smoke and gave up drinking nearly 4 years ago. I exercise at least 5 days a week. I have slightly elevated blood pressure for which I take medication (although I found out later that had I been in the UK I would not have been put on medication just told to make lifestyle changes) and have started to suffer with what appears to be mild to moderate BPH (without any pain, just night time visits to the loo and weak water flow). What other test would any of you recommend I include?

PSA and manual prostate exam unless done recently.

Exercise stress test in place of EKG. Note that if your BP med is a beta blocker you need to not take it for a day or so before the stress test - ask about this.

Thanks Sheryl.

Okay, I'll add PSA (Baht 760). Digital examination is not on the list of available tests.

The stress is there and listed at Baht 2,800, but I am not sure I need one. I am not overweight. 181cm tall and 80.5 kgs. I workout on a rowing machine 5 days a week. My resting heart rate is 50bpm and with exercise on the rower I sometimes get up to 150 but I am usually around 135 to 145 in a heavy workout. My heart rate drops down to about 100 in a 1 minute or less and is down to 60 or 70 within 5 minutes.  However, I do not know my blood pressure before and after a workout. Do you still recommend it?

The med I am taking is Amplodipine which is a calcium channel blocker. 5mg single daily dose.  I really would like to come of it altogether so perhaps I should step down to 2.5 first and see how that goes, but that is a different subject.

Just a bump.

Personally I would get it, yes. It will likely come back fine then you need not repeat it for say another 5 years.

What the test does is watch for ischemic changes on the EKG when you are at maximum heart rate. This can occur without symptoms.

Thanks. I'll add that to the list. If I do it at the same time as my office medical it is discounted from Baht 4,200 to 2,800 and I can get reimbursed. I may as well take advantage of this while I can. Once I retire in 4 years I will have to start paying for myself.

Well the results of the exercise stress test came back normal. But for some reason my blood pressure was a bit higher than normal for me this morning. Doctor said it could be from stress about the physical or not sleeping so well over the past few days. Said I should check my blood pressure at home to get a better idea as I am likely to be more relaxed there. So I'll get out my old machine and hope it still works or buy a replacement. Any recommendations on models?

Won't get the results of my blood and urine work for a few weeks. Fingers crossed.

At 385 baht with next day delivery from Lazada believe this is good value.  Ordered last week as validation of my more expensive Omron meter (my pressure is consistently much lower at home, or even as inpatient, than when visiting doctor - talking about 20-50mmHg).  Readings have been very close to Omron so believe it is accurate (have taken Omron to hospital to check within last 2 months).

Results from the PSA test came back as 0.59. Would you still recommend a digital exam? I occasionally have what appear to be prostate problems, frequent visits to the bathroom at night and weak stream.
