BANGKOK, 27 September 2018 (NNT) - U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Glyn T. Davies on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House on the occasion of his completion of assignment in Thailand.

The PM thanked the ambassador for his excellent service for almost three years in Thailand and thanked the U.S. for participating in an operation to rescue 12 boys and their soccer coach from the Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai.

Gen.Prayut stated further that the Thailand 4.0 and Thailand+1 policies will benefit investment by the U.S. private sector.

Regarding the human trafficking issue, the ambassador said Thailand's ranking had improved to Tier 2 due to the Thai government's efforts to solve the problem.

The ambassador added that he was impressed by and admired the 200-years of Thai-U.S. relations. The ambassador also expressed his confidence in Thailand's organization of a general election, saying he believed that Thai people's unity and love for the nation and monarchy will lead the country to a bright future.

Considering the speaking capabilities of his boss POTUS Trump, maybe Davies meant

'he wasn't impressed by and admired the 200-years of Thai-U.S. relations.'

The look on Glyn T Davies's face says it all . . . 'Why, you poncy looking pillock. Donald warned me to take my sunglasses to our meeting, but just tell me . . . why the hell can't you dress like a man?'

Well, if he believes that, then he must be dumb, blind, brainless and more naive than a one-day-old babe in arms.

It is disgraceful that he makes such a ludicrous statement (which he obviously cannot believe). No need for such a comment from him (when he is leaving this country). Absolutely none. He could have simply mouthed off a few general platitudes about the beauties of Thailand and its friendly people - but not that idiotic claim about a well-organised election

It just shows us what unprincipled scum these 'ambassadors' are. No moral backbone. No sense of conscience. No guts whatsoever. By saying nothing about the 'election' - he would have spoken volumes ...

What he did, effectively, is told K Prayut that the USA is watching, and plans to hold him to the promise of elections.

Thank God Ambassadors aren't randomly selected from TVF posters.  There'd be blood in the streets and closed borders all around.

It's quite possible that the Ambassador was asked [by his superiors] to extend the usual rhetorical accolades as to be expected in particular statesman types of public situations - en lieu of going off politically extending personal/official statements that might come across awkward throughout all concerned parties.

Commonplace amongst diplomatic and statesman-like circles.

They sure look like best buddies in the photo.

Err, not exactly. The junta chief looks like either he needs to dispose of a pretty mean curry rather quickly or else punch Mr Davies in the face.

And no barbed words from the departing ambassador - Sad.

Davies did exactly the job he was supposed to do.

He was an Ambassador to a military regime, so his task was to maintain a relationship without endorsing it.

Tough row to hoe, but he did it as well as anyone could.

Being an ambassador to Thailand is not exactly a cushy appointment, although there are worse, but hardly like that of the ambassador to the 'Court of St James'
