Your Thai girlfriend sent you this puzzle, can you solve it?

While you were away, your Thai girlfriend or wife sent you the following cryptic message:

     SEND

   +

     MORE

  ________

    MONEY

To find how much she wants, you need to replace the letters with digits.

One letter = one digit, if E = 1 then all Es = 1

My father gave me this puzzle decades ago when I was in high school.

Little did he know how prescient he was...

Please REFRAIN from looking for the answer on internet, and from posting it...

You could just ask her or you could ignore the message until she brings it up again.

Why would anybody spend time trying to figure out how much money she wants?

Easy, peasy…..she wants more than she can spend. Only those with a set income and boundaries have a chance of answering.

you lost me at 'cryptic message and Thai woman' at the same sentence, impossible combinations, nevermind money...

On the contrary, they're quite mysterious and enigmatic.

Most don't have the ability to recognize as such, as they're too busy attempting to place Thai lasses into something they're not.

The obvious connections and misunderstanding derive from the usual circle.

Suckers.

Guys, come on...show that you are at least as smart as your girlfriend and that you can solve the puzzle, instead of burying the subject in digressions...

It's simple algebra easy to solve.

No, because the OP has not specified whether the MONEY component is a result or a denominator. Personally, I'd go for the denominator.

Did you see the + sign?

No denominator, just a simple addition...

Just a quick glance, didn't try to solve it, but M = 1.

That's indeed where to start from.

Usually, we deal with additions going from the right to the left, but in this case it has to be the opposite.

Once M is found, it is quite easy to find O...after it gets more complicated...

Thought it said all Es =1.

As an example...to explain that once you have found which digit replaces a given letter, you can replace all these letters with the digit.

In this case, since someone found that M = 1, it means that the M in "more" and the M in "money" can be replaced with the digit 1.

Ah i think I see my error

o = 0

M = 1

D = 2

E = 5

N = 6

Y = 7

R = 8

S = 9

You got the MORE right

Check the second column N + R

With you digits, you get 6 + 8 = 14

But you need to get 15 because E = 5
