checked in for BA flight to LHR last night and noticed the girls that normally man the booths where you pay the departure tax hanging around the check-in area with wads of tax receipts. noticed some pax paying tax at the ticket check in. when it was my turn i asked if i need to pay departure tax and the check-in lady said it was already included in the eticket. walked past the booths and sure enough, they were empty. any other carriers including dep tax in the ticket? this new procedure similarly unannounced like the increase from 500 to 700 baht?

(Effective 01 November 2006 For Travel Commencing 01 February 2007 Onwards)

1. Currently, Airport Taxes (Passenger Service Charge or PSC) ex Thailand are collected by the airport authorities at the airport departure area. Effective 01 November 2006, PSCs will be collected at point-of-ticketing by the airlines/travel agents on behalf of Airports of Thailand. This is applicable for travel ex Thailand starting from 01 February 2007* onwards.

Note: *Passengers who travel ex Thailand before 01 February 2007 will continue to pay their PSCs at the airport departure area.;

Now is February, the new rule was effective last November. 3 months not enough?

Well Axel you know it;s Thailand ... they make one announcement one day and then say the opposite the next and then do something completely different. Who pays attention to this kind of announcement in Thailand anyway?

I ran into the same momentary confusion yesterday at the airport when I departed and there was no one in the airport tax booth. My ticket was issued before February 1st ... but after November ... and guess what, the agent at the point of ticketing did not include the airport tax in the ticket price ... and there were many passengers like me ... wandering around looking for someone to buy an airport tax receipt from. So ... again so much for that announcement ... agents at the point of ticketing haven't paid attention to it either.

The girls hanging around the ticket counters with handfulls of receipts were actually selling airport tax receipts to passengers like me. Just another cluster ###### and example of Airport Management in Thailand if you ask me. I predict they will re-open the airport tax booths again in a few days or so. (Old timers will remember the days when passengers paid their airport tax to the Thai staff when they checked in at the ticket counter but then someone didn't like the Thai Airways staff handling money and as a result those airport tax booths were established).

Also to be sure that passengers pay for their wonderful new airport experience, the airport tax has increased to 700 baht now .... as has earlier been reported in this forum .... and also the TOT limo's have stopped their "promotions' and so the limo prices have increased too, as if they weren't already not over-priced.

Amazing Thailand

ok. RELATIVELY unannounced and SLOWLY being implemented. better?

i guess tickets issued after 1 Feb will all have the PSC included. probably those seen paying at check-in had tickets purchased prior to that date. maybe something for any tv'ers departing on the inward portion of a r/t ticket originally purchased b4 1 Feb to be aware of.

Do passengers who'll be soon flying out of Don Muang have to pay the same 700B included in the ticket or the old system of paying 500B @ airport? :o

From Feb 1 it is up to airline to pay the airport tax for all departing passengers to international destinations not in transit.

if the tax is not included in your ticket, the check-in agent is supposed to make you pay or ifthey do not the airlnie will have to pay it for you

If the tickets were purchased after 1st Feb, no need. If before, yes they'll have to pay.

Slight correction, tickets issued from Nov. 1, 06:

Passenger Service Charge will be charged on all passengers departing

from all airports in Thailand except Koh Samui / Sukhothai / Trat and shall be

collected at point of sales for tickets issued on/after 01NOV06 for travel on/after 01FEB07.

This means, travelling now, your ticket should show on the left bottom-side the amount included for PSC/tax of Baht 700.

Check on the bottom left of the ticket there should be a mention of the fare and the taxes (if any) paid and the total cost of the ticket

Looks like (as far as I know) QX is for France airport tax/passenger facility charge

YQ is for fuel surcharge

XT is a total of several charges/taxes which may (but I do not think so) include an airport tax. Detail of the components of XT is in the middle bottom line where the fare calculation is written.

If you can give me the routing of the ticket I might be able to give you more details.

I think however that the BKK airport tax is not included

It will only show up as 700 THB if the ticket was issued in Thailand.

yeti, are those details for one passenger or two? QX is the PSC for France-Int'l, XT could be the PSC for Thailand.

I thought so too but XT is a compound of charges and anyway 34 EUR is not near the equivalent of 700 baht.

I suppose the routing is Paris Doha Bangkok Doha Paris

QX is for the departure tax from France

YQ is the fuel surcharge

Can you give me the fare calculation in the bottom middle of the ticket it should finish with XT

So finally it was included. But I saw some people who had to pay it at check-in (now if you need to pay it, it will be at check-in).
