Steven Seagal stormed out of an interview with BBC's Newsnight on Thursday after being asked about sexual assault allegations made against him.

 

During Thursday's appearance, presenter Kirsty Wark brought up the #MeToo movement.

 

She asked Seagal: "You've been very much caught up in all the allegations of sexual harassment.

 

"You had a rape allegation against you, and I wonder how you deal with all that?"

Other for profit "news" companies said he "walked out".  One said he "exited".  This one and a couple others decided on "stormed out".  How dramatic of them.

 

She boxed him in then went for the sanctimonious gotcha.  It didn't work.  He walked.  Didn't look like 'storming out' to me. 

 

She looked stupid but tried to play it off like she'd done a public service of some kind.   Not defending him, I don't even like him, but screw her.

Thing was it wasn't confrontational. The lady simply said " you have been accused of sexual assault" at which point he pulled out his earpiece and walked off the set.

Rather anticlimactic.

Hardly "great" and hardly a "master".  He married the owner of some dojo in Japan and suddenly jumped several levels of black belt.  Well known in martial arts circles.  it is a fact that he used some stunts based on aikido in a few movies, but he is white belt material. Kudos to him though for fooling hollywood and the general public.

At the time he was in Japan studying Aikido, he was completely unknown...why then would he have benefited from a special treatment?

Japanese sensei are not into that kind of favoritism.

Meanwhile, in his first 5 or 6 movies, you can see that he masters aikido...the way he give a first strike to disorientate the opponent, the way he moves in a semi-circles as if he was sliding.

If it was so easy to simulate aikido, there would be dozens of actors doing it...which I have not seen...

Totally wrong.  Many Japanese martial arts schools  (including the main aikido one) pass the school over to heirs or relatives.  Do some research.  This should get you started, https://www.koryu.com/library/mskoss4.html

 I find it quite ridiculous that anybody should even attempt to disrespect Bruce Lee. It is well known there can never be a finer martial arts expert dedicated to his craft. He was the King.

 

Moving on so as not to make multiple posts, I am no fan of Steven Seagal, I used to like his early movies, but then he started courting publicity and then gaining publicity for all the wrong reasons. His Russian passport, flying over and meeting Prayut for nonsense, for instance.

 

Some may view it that if they want to attract publicity, then negative publicity is also part of the deal!

 

However, and it does not apply exclusively to him, but many actors and sports stars have been caught going for an interview supposedly about something different, only to be tricked into historical rape allegations being dragged up. It happened to Iron Mike TYSON, I still do not believe that allegation either

 

Another point, one thing I do like about US law, (although I find a lot of sentencing ridiculous) is the Statute of limitations. Let's face it, this accusation against Steven Seagal goes back to 1994. There has/was ample time to file a complaint a long time ago.

 

In these times of government cutbacks and austerity measures, giving us fewer police officers to do a job of increasing crime, how can they justify these resources being spent on matters that happened 20-30 years ago?

 

I get it if technology reveals DNA or something years later, go ahead and prosecute, but accusations two decades later, out of the blue, with no clear evidence, is wrong in my book.

 

Also, it is wrong that those signing and cashing on non-disclosure agreements, then after spending the cash, come forward again years later.

 

It seems like having multiple bites at the cherry to me!

 

Some people, especially in the USA have been wrongly accused, but because they have massive sponsorship deals, it can be easier for the problem to just be paid to go away. It is no admission of guilt, and the stars can lose far more revenue if these accusations fall into the public domain, like being pulled from movies, withdrawal of sponsorship, damaged reputation, etc It is a big, big business.

 

There have been TV members criticizing the girl on Koh Tao, for not reporting her alleged attack there and then at the time, within hours of the attack,.......... the one in question on this thread,........ we are looking at 24 years ago now!
