Is Penang Cheaper Than Thailand To Buy Electronics?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if penang is really cheaper than thailand to buy a nice digital camara, anyone has information on this?

Let's try the tech forum, might have more luck. :o

I don't know anything about Penang but Thailand is definitely NOT NOT NOT NOT the best place to be buying electronics. Penang is very likely to be cheaper.

yeah, go to penang and save 500 baht!!

Nice one, clown, I am talking about saving a couple of hundred dollars here..

For example, I priced a Sony DSC-T50 in Hong Kong and it was about AU$520. On the other hand, here in Thailand it worked out to about AU$750.

Thailand's heavy import duties make it an expensive place to buy such things... if you want cheap crud electronics (computer bits, etc) from Pantip Plaza that's a different story. But for digital cameras etc, Thailand is not the place to do it unless you have to! (I ended up buying my camera in Thailand anyway for example, but only because I realised it was too expensive, too late, and I needed the camera!!)

Langkawi is definitely cheaper (duty free), try there instead....!

If you found some malaysian online shops you could compare them to Thai online shops (see sticky)...

I tried and didn't find any though :o

The Nikon D40 kit seems indeed overpriced in Thailand at USD 715 at tohome.com and ~600 (incl tax) at Amazon.com

Repeat my above post....! :o

I am not convinced that Penang will be much cheaper, but if you like

price up a particular camera in Thailand, I will get you the price here in Penang.
