UK 220 MPs Demand Keir Starmer Recognise Palestinian Statehood
LONDON (Reuters) -British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will recall his cabinet from their summer break to discuss the situation in Gaza, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, amid growing pressure on the Labour government to recognise a Palestinian state. The paper said the move to recall his cabinet of ministers next week was set out on Sunday by Downing Street. The UK parliament and cabinet are currently in a summer recess until September 1. The recall comes after Starmer said on Friday the British government would recognise a Palestinian state only as part of a negotiated peace deal, disappointing many in his Labour Party who want him to follow France in taking swifter action. Starmer condemns ‘indefensible’ starvation of Palestinians in Gaza
Military pauses promised by Israel will not alone be enough to ease suffering in Gaza, David Lammy has warned as the UK joined efforts to airdrop aid into the territory. The Foreign Secretary welcomed the resumption of humanitarian corridors in the enclave but called for access to supplies to be “urgently” widened over the coming hours and days. He said Israel’s announcement that it would suspend fighting in three populated areas of Gaza for 10 hours a day and open secure routes for aid delivery to desperate Palestinians was “essential but long overdue.” Military pause not enough to ease Gaza suffering, Lammy warns -

Israel to open Gaza humanitarian corridors as aid drops begin
Geneva: The United Nations said it would try to reach as many starving people as possible in Gaza after Israel announced it would establish secure land routes for humanitarian convoys. The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said it had enough food in, or on its way to, the region to feed the 2.1 million people in the Gaza Strip for almost three months. UN emergency relief coordinator Tom Fletcher said on X he welcomed the announcement of “humanitarian pauses”. “In contact with our teams on the ground who will do all we can to reach as many starving people as we can in this window,” he said.
