No need to take my word for it,

Easy test to do, buy a small bottle, keep it in the fridge, taste it every week.

If it's still good after 3-4 weeks, it's from powder.

RAW milk, bad after 3 days, pasteurized milk good for a week.

Thank you

Chok Chai.  It's about the only commercial milk I'll drink.  In places like Chiang Mai you can also purchase milk in some of the markets.  It's safe.  If you're coming to Thailand you'll need to toss your First World squeamishness toward all things bacteria.  Just a fact of life - when you first get here, you'll probably have on-again/off-again gastrointestinal problems for a few months to a year as your First World body adjusts to Third World bacteria that doesn't bother the rest of us.  Once you adapt, it's all good man.

Thanks

I have been reliably informed from dairy farmers in Australia that most milk sold in Thailand is reconstituted from a milk gell.. that's one step before turning it into powered milk.. I was surprised too.

Well that must be true then based on that comment ????

By the way there is a Thai lady who recently was in the news for selling breast milk.  Guess you Australian farming friends will claim she has got gel in her t*ts. ????????

She said she'd like to bathe in milk, he said, "All right, sweetheart,"
And when he'd finished work one night he loaded up his cart
He said, "D'you want it pasturize? Cause pasturize is best,"
She says, "Ernie, I'll be happy if it comes up to my chest."

Actually met Benny Hill on one occasion. would never have guessed he was worth millions at the time. Down to earth as they come.  Eccentric yes.

New Zealand is the major supplier of milk and dairy products not Australia. NZ has close to 5 million milking cows with a relatively small population for local sales.Tonnes of milk powder are exported, reconstituted into bottled milk and the baby formula market in Asia is huge.

I have a dairy farmer friend in Oz who has very lucrative Chinese contract to supply fresh milk to the few who can afford it

If you see milk in coolers and it has a sell by expiration date and marked 100% milk, it's not made from powder. Milk sold as low-fat or 0% has less milk fat, not added water. The main differences of the flavor in milk is due to their diet and the cow breed. I rate my choices in order - 1. Chok Chai (best chocolate flavored also), 2.  mMilk (white label with black cow spots), 3. Foremost and Meiji tie.  I'll admit that price influences which brand I buy.  Big C had Foremost for 79 baht a liter, my last week. Boxed milk sitting on shelves is either made from powder or has ingredients added for prolonged storage. I store my fresh milk on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator between 36-39 F.

The taste varies wildly between brands, some is obviously re-constituted powdered. The only real way to find out which you like is to buy a sample and try it.

I find that to my (ancient) British taste-buds that Meiji brand (blue top) is the most "realistic" in taste, the skimmed tastes like white water ????

I know that US milk tastes somehow different, time to suck it and see.

I am a lifelong milkaholic, regularly knocking back a gallon daily when I was younger.  Meiji tastes the same as the excellent milk (from Coleman Dairy) that I drank in America.  None of the other brands in Thailand reach that taste quality, with the exception of Dairy Home, which is also good but absurdly expensive.

I see milk from the states at Villa Mart, i do not know if they still carry it...they do carry Magnolia Milk which is suppose to be the real thing, originally out of Singapore....I stop the regular milk like Meiji milk..

( Bloating/Lactose ) etc: and switched to a more healthy 137 Degree Almond Milk...also has Organic Coconut Flower Nectar...Be American

I enjoy Almond Milk

Best thing i ever did...can get at Makro, Big-C Lotus etc:

many things to "adapt" to ......   if you are relatively happy here, you have adapted well ( not meant to connda specificaly).      And if you are someone special you will be posting advice about thailand here on TV before your first year has passed.

Who would have thought MILK,pure and simple would warrant

such fervent debate, we have had spelling mistakes, spelling police,

snide jokes, funny videos, posters promoting their favourite brand of

milk, and that's what it is all about personal choice, viva la difference.

I hope I have made no spelling mistakes in this post, the spelling police

who seem to have nothing better to do than troll the posts, searching

for the smallest mistakes,so they can comment, suppose it must make

them think they are superior,to mere mortals.amen.

Why put up a picture of Foremost milk in America? That photo has no relevance to Thailand..

That Foremost milk was about all that available in Thailand during the 60's as was made here for US forces.  Rights to the name Foremost in the region is now owned by a Singapore firm making that brand for sale in Thailand.  Very relevant to Thailand.
