A 52-year-old woman reportedly killed herself by holding her head under water inside a bathroom at home in Roi Et’s Muang district on Sunday morning, police said.

Wanida Wongnil had a day earlier tried to take her life by consuming pesticide, but was saved in time, Second Lieutenant Nawin Srisaikham, 58, who lives in the same house, told police. He was the one to find the body.

He told police that Wanida had been under a lot of stress as her food business was not doing well and money lenders kept visiting her shop to demand their money back.

Poor lady. It's a shame it has got to that stage. The moneylenders of Thailand are leeches and I thought Prayut was ' supposedly ' with much fanfare going to chase down and stop this practice. However, another broken promise to the people of Thailand.

They are too busy chasing up foreigners and checking if they are ' really married ' to warrant their visas or arguing wording on retirement extensions to concentrate on real issues that affect the public at large, and not enough photo opportunities in being honest hardworking policemen, for the good of the country.

That's sad, young lady. RIP. No one is going to bother you now.

Poor people in Thailand has no financial outlet to resort to unlike some other countries. They are at the mercy of money lenders if banks or cooperatives do not touch them. Microcredit finance ,I think , is not available in Thailand.

I would imagine that it is easy to drown yourself in a river or in the sea, but much more difficult to drown yourself by holding your own head in a bowl of water.  Wouldn't an automatic self-preservation reaction prevent the drowning?

I am just a little surprised that nobody in the TV crime investigation group has not yet suggested that perhaps the illegal money lenders might have been responsible in a much more direct way.

as the president of this group I want to go on the record as saying her Farang boyfriend did it.

sad story. I think we would be shocked because the amount of money is probably not that great.
