Suwit Thongprasert, on wheelchair, leaves the court on Monday.

BANGKOK — A former activist monk convicted of assaulting police officers said he would soon return to the monkhood after he was freed on parole Monday.

Suwit Thongprasert, formerly known as Buddha Issara, had his monk status stripped when he was arrested in a predawn raid in May and put on trial. A court today found Suwit guilty of ordering his followers to detain and beat up two undercover policemen during a street protest he led in 2014.

The 62-year-old former monk arrived and left the court in a wheelchair. His aides said he’s suffering from severe back pain caused by a herniated disc.

He gets priority boarding on the paddywagon, yes.

Of course he wants to get back into monkhood, lots of money to be scammed out of the gullible folk.

Is that possible - will Buddha offer him instant forgiveness (just add water)?

Or perhaps it's compulsory now, having read numerous articles about monks and their monkeying antics, breaking canon law as well as criminal law.

Does Buddhism copy the same ideas as Christianity - where there's much rejoicing over a sinner forgiven his sins?

"had his monk status stripped"

"and left the court in a wheelchair."

So, for a while he had no alms and no legs ? ????

Looks like he been through hell. I hope his good buddy Suthep has enough of the street donations that he hoarded for your medical care.

Don't forget to stick him in the microwave for 90 sec's like those noodle things .. No longer mind or he'll go pop ..

Another violent criminal will go back to hiding with the rest of saffron robed crooks. No doubt to work for Suthip again behind the scenes as an activist

Whoa ! Far enought lads , strike a poase .

In the next day or two he will convert to Christianity, pray for a miracle and he will be able to walk without a wheelchair.

He will then de-convert and return to Buddhism fit and healthy in time to help his BFF Suthep screw up the next election.
