A woman from the Philippines died and several vehicles were damaged after an accident at Thepprasit 9, Pattaya on Monday.

A Toyota driven by 37 year old Ekapong Phiboonrat hit Maria Rosario. S. Paloma who died from her injuries.

Three other cars and a motorcycle were damaged.

Witnesses said that the Filipina was crossing the road with three friends who stopped when they heard the horn of the speeding car.

She did not.

Pattaya police are studying CCTV as they proceed with the case.

Gangway.....had time to blow his horn,so apparently he saw them ,just to lawless, shamless and full of himself to slow down or stop...those of us who live in Thailand see it all the time...pedestrians are less than dogs..

RIP sorry, few people care about these deaths in Thailand

Had time to sound his horn, but not the intelligence or will to hit the brakes.

Just another sad and preventable death on the Roads of Thailand causeed by a moronic driver.

RIP Lady.

actually poor gal was 25 years old, was the house manager for a well known serviced apartment on Sukhumwit 22 , whom I knew personally over the years , was fluent in Thai and was a very nice person, occasionally a singer and knew the members of the various PI bands like  Checkin99  and Titanium ..... should be vehicular manslaughter and years in jail   if there were Justice .... God Bless Nong Rosette   ;  terrible tragedy ....

Unfortunately, I must admit many Thai drivers are more careful with dogs walking/ sleeping on the streets than they are with pedestrians. -Most Thai drivers do not slow down when people are walking on the side of a soi ( no sidewalks folks- have no choice). But I suppose it the driver hits someone the plan is to not stop.

I don't understand what the hurry with these drivers. 24 hours a day and a lifetime is plenty of time to do whatever <deleted> shit you want to do. Slow down <deleted>!

RIP, poor girl.

She must have caused quite a panic until they realised that she was a Fillipina tourist and not Chinese.

RIP and my deepest condolences to the Filipino community in Pattaya. They are hard workers and support their families back home. Another innocent life lost.

A "wai" followed by cash changing hands will close the case unfortunately.......

R.I.P. to the innocent young lady :wai:

Always difficult. Pay attention when crossing the road. Driver expected her to stop when he honked the horn. Roads are for cars, not pedestrians. That said in Western countries pedestrians have the right of way once they step onto the road. One of the reasons why western tourists don't pay nearly the attention they should when crossing the roads here in Thailand. Not sure what the law is here in Thailand or her Philippine home country. Pedestrians pay a heavy price when car meets pedestrian on the road. RIP young lady.

why "carnage"? that was just an accident

Agreed. So many nut drivers that drive way too fast in crowded places or in heavy traffic. I guess they are late in doing their bussinesses, but they should understand that safety is a priority, business can wait or they should just get better at time management.

RIP

But Ekapong the driver actually stopped?

Only after he smashed into several other vehicles.

not "accident". Its manslaughter" - he chose not stop - not to give her the chance to survive for saving 1 second or for feeling superior sitting in the car. He chose to take the  risk  willingly - so manslaughter .

Happens here all the time. There is a reason for this country  having   the most deadly roads in the world .

In other places he would go to jail. here max. 500.000 Baht. And insurance will even pay for damage of his car....

Yes and even then most drivers won't stop to let pedestrians cross...it makes zebra/pedestrian crossings especially dangerous here.

I always park at the old AMPM service station and cross Threprasit to get to buffalo market. The people think that stretch of road is a race track. Some people are travelling a stupid speeds, mostly motorbikes.

pedestrians ONLY have the right of way when on A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING...IT IS THE LAW IN THE UK

as far as some thais are concerned tootin the horn is enough & because of that they dont have to apply the brakes.horrendous behaviour.

The story's incomplete. The speeding car, tootin horn, and pedestrian death I understand, but how did 3 cars and a m/cycle get damaged.
