Name of this implant, pls

Featured Replies

I understand it's an implanted contraceptive. Pain seems to be caused by an uterine fibroids. And implant is meant to stop pain, done in August.

Pain persist. Plus first time but rather strong pigmentation in the face. Want to understand causes and options.

Implanon NZT

Active ingrediant is etonogestrel, a synthetic progestin

There are (rare) reports of it causing melasma in some women

It is not used to treat pain associated with fibroids and only rarely is there any pain connected with fibroids and this, when they have become extremely large. It is used to treat the pain of endometriosis, though. And it is used to decrease the excessive bleeding often associated with fibroids.

I think before you go into options you need a better handle on why this was prescribed. I think either she has endometriosis, and it was given in the hope it would help with that pain by suppressing ovulation, or it was given to decrease excessive bleeding (not pain) associated with fibroids.

A woman can have both fibroids and endometriosis. if her main complaint is severe menstrual cramps, endometriosis is more likely to be the culprit than fibroids, even if they are present (they can be present and not causing any symptoms)
