Holidays in Thailand. Friend's house and then hotel. Immigration?

Hi all

I'm not an expert  here...I would like to ask a question about immigration.

Im european and will arrive in Thailand for 20 days..

I have already buy fly ticket  from Europe to CM and return.

I will stay some days in friend's house in CM and then i will go to a Pattaya's hotel for a week.

After  i will return in CM friend's

home.

I have to go to CM immigration for the days that stay in CM friend 's house?

What address should I write in the arrival card?

Thanks for the tips!!

If flying directly into Chiang Mai you are unlikely to have any problems, completely different experience from either of the Bangkok airports.

Write your friend's address on the arrival card, as that is your first stop and where you will be spending most of your trip.

If only staying for 20 days, no need to report to immigration in either Chiang Mai or Pattaya. In Pattaya, I believe that any reporting duty falls to the hotel, not you. In any case, the rules are not designed to affect short-term tourists, you are precisely the sort of visitor they want: come, spend a load of money, and go home quickly. No need to waste any of your already tragically short vacation hanging around immigration offices.

Your post mentioned that you are European but, as your username is brazilser61, I should clarify that the above advice only applies if you are a white European. If you are a black or mixed-race Brazilian, no matter how long you have lived in Europe, it might be wise to take extra precautions. At the very least, carry your passport with you at all times.

I have never seen racism at Chiang Mai Airport (whereas I certainly have seen it at immigration at both Bangkok airports, including sending back a perfectly nice Bralizian family), but it might affect you during your trip as there is currently a police crackdown on darker folks. You might get stopped, asked for your passport and quizzed about your accommodation. They are mainly looking for African and non-white French overstayers but it might be enough of an extra risk factor to make it worth your while to report to immigration and make sure everything is in order. Again, this advice is color-coded, and I only mention it because of your username.
