Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Four Thai police officers were injured in a roadside bomb attack while supporting a joint security operation in the insurgency-affected district of Chanae in the deep south. The incident occurred at approximately 12:15 on 15 July, in Ban Nam Hom, Village 7, Dusongyo Subdistrict, Chanae District, Narathiwat Province. The officers were part of a special operations unit (MNP 41)assigned to assist the 49th Ranger Task Force (Rangers Regiment 49) under the framework of the “Protect the People” mission, running from 13–18 July. According to initial reports, the team from Company 4902 of the Thai Rangers was targeted by insurgents who planted an improvised explosive device (IED) along the road. The explosion injured four members of the special operations police unit: • Police Lieutenant Thawaooma Yeeta – suffered ear trauma and chest tightness • Police Sergeant Ekanan Prathumta – sustained a head wound, along with hearing loss and chest tightness • Police Sergeant Ismaae Yeeta – reported hearing issues and tightness in the chest • Police Sergeant Pariwat Sukkasem – suffered similar ear and chest injuries All four officers were promptly transported to Chanae Hospital for treatment. In response, security forces swiftly sealed off the area to secure the scene. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units and forensic teams were deployed to investigate and gather evidence. The attack highlights the ongoing tensions in Thailand’s southern border provinces, where separatist violence has persisted for decades despite ongoing peace efforts. Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators. The investigation remains ongoing. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-07-16 -

Accident Saraburi: Father Killed by Speeding Pickup Truck Moments After Buying Ice
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A routine stop to buy a bag of ice ended in tragedy when a 46-year-old father was fatally struck by a speeding delivery pickup truck in Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province, just minutes before he was due to pick up his child. The incident occurred at 17:45 on 14 July, along the Huai Bong–Tha Lan Road, near Wat Huai Bun in Moo 8, Tha Chang subdistrict. Rescue teams from Sawang Rattanatrai Thammasathan Foundation and police from Sao Hai Police Station responded swiftly to the emergency call. CCTV footage from a roadside shop captured the horrifying moment. The victim, later identified as Mr. Chaiwat, had parked his white Neta V electric vehicle and walked to a nearby grocery to purchase a 5-baht bag of ice. As he returned to load it into the boot of his car, a white Isuzu box truck came hurtling down the road at high speed and ploughed directly into him and his car, sending both flying over 10 metres. Witnesses described the scene as shocking. “There was no sign the truck slowed down, no braking at all,” one shopkeeper said. “It hit him at full force.” Mr. Chaiwat sustained severe head injuries and was found unresponsive at the scene. Rescue workers performed CPR in a desperate attempt to revive him, but he succumbed to his injuries en route to Sao Hai Hospital. His wife, who had been accompanying him, suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. The driver of the box truck, who also sustained minor injuries, was detained by police. Initial investigations confirmed that he tested negative for alcohol and drugs. He later admitted to falling asleep at the wheel, leading to the fatal crash. Police have charged him with reckless driving causing death. It was later revealed that Mr. Chaiwat and his wife had planned to collect their child from school before heading to a local sports complex for evening exercise.
