A big well done to the Singaporean team, who have shown that bringing adequate resources to a task, can render an operation fairly simple and have it completed in short order.

One hopes that not only will their efforts provide valuable information regarding the disaster, but also ring a few wake up bells in Thailand, when it comes to such problems.

As has been clearly proven, hiring clowns on such a sensitive issue, to try to save a few lousy bucks, and trying to save some face as in "Yeah! We can do this" , when you clearly can't, ends up with you looking like laughable clowns yourself.

It is little wonder the Chinese are not coming, as they obviously have little or no faith in the authorities here to have the first clue what to do in the event of a disaster.

I can only imagine the scale of the tragedy to come when one of their subs has a problem and needs rescuing.

Wasn't it simply greed that sunk this boat by overloading it, going out against weather warnings, failing to follow basic steps of marine safety?

I doubt that their forensic investigation is going to find anything new and startling as to the cause.

Hopefully this effort will help to bring some peace and closure to the families of the deceased.

Where do you get the idea to they did it to save a few bucks? The only reason it went the way it was was to make bucks, and more than a few.

The guy is achieving things, and all you can come up with is more negative crap. Why am I not surprised.

All the anticipation all the hype, the botched first attempt, the arrival of Super BJ and the 5 day deadline.

After all this, is there no video or photo story?

Thailand raises shipwreck that killed 47 tourists, hopes to restore confidence

pheonix.JPG

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Saturday raised the shipwreck that killed 47 Chinese tourists in July, part of an ongoing investigation into the cause of the boat capsizing, officials said.

"The Phoenix is an important piece of evidence to determine the cause of the accident," Tourist Police Bureau Deputy Chief, Major General Surachate Hakparn, told reporters.

"When the case is final, it will be able to restore Chinese tourist confidence," he said separately in a statement.

The Phoenix went down in high seas in July off Thailand's west-coast island of Phuket with 101 people on board, made up of 12 crew members and 89 tourists, all but two of them from China. The ship had been taking the passengers on an outing to a small island for snorkelling.

An earlier salvage effort was suspended due to weather conditions.

The capsizing and sinking of the Phoenix was Thailand's worst tourist-related disaster in years and led to a sharp drop in Chinese arrivals in the following months.

Tourists from China make up the biggest portion of Thailand's visitors, and last year accounted for nearly one-third of a record 35.38 million arrivals.

Tourism accounts for about 12 percent of Southeast Asia's second-largest economy, making it a key driver of its growth.

The Thai government has scrambled to restore tourism with schemes such as granting waivers on visa fees.

"We want to get to the truth (about the Phoenix)," Surachate said. The effort shows a commitment to the relatives of the dead and will help restore tourism confidence in Thailand, he said.

Interesting.

Who's version of the truth, in order to make it fit the government's agenda.

the truth = in Thailand, a truly moveable feast.

C'mon, they haven't yet told the report writer what to write, in order to try and remove anything incriminating.

Maybe you should actually read the story then. The Phuket news story in the original story says "

At each stage the emphasis was on maximum safety to the recovery team. No other personnel were allowed to enter into an area of 1km around the site. For transparency, each stage of the operation was captured on video by the Singaporean team."

If you count up all those 44 Gallon drums, and multiply it by 2, that's how many Thai BBQ's you can make with them.  ????

As I said, he is achieving things.

Nobody said anything about his salvage skills or superpower, a weak attempt from your side after your negativity in your earlier post.

Ol big joke isn't a man of mystery, most members with a bit of common sense can see though this government puppet that has become some sort of idol for the public and to tell you the truth from some of the comments by tv members most of us are getting a bit sick of his mug popping up daily with some bs story of how he's saving Thailand.
