I'd love to hear what you folks are using and what your experiences were.

Sheryl, is that documented  somewhere (in English preferably)?

If you are referring to the 30-Baht health scheme, I had thought that was a Taksin-thing and was stopped when the junta took power. At least, so I've been told by various Thais.

I do know for a fact that my girlfriend, who's Thai, does not get free health care.

The "30 baht" scheme most definitely has NOT been stopped.

And all Thai know this. Sorry but it sounds like you are simply being lied to.

The Junta would like to revise or revoke it, but it is so popular they have been unable to.

Your GF CAN get free health care (or for 30 baht a visit-- some hospitals collect this and some don't bother). But it has to be at the hospital for the location where she is listed in a tabian ban (house registration book) and it is not unusual for people to live and work somewhere else quite far from their home province in which case they will often prefer to pay for meds/health care out of pocket rather than trek all the way back to home province for care, unless it is something major enough to make that worthwhile.

Tabian ban listings can be changed and that is worth doing if relocated for the forseeable future.

Thank you for the clarification Sheryl!

I'm assuming this means that the same rule applies to the newborn as well, and that she'll get the free health care whereever she is registered in the Tabien Baan.
