This is because the Clostridium tetani spores will only become active in an anaerobic environment. Opening and cleaning the wound creates an aerobic environment where the bacteria can not survive. The classic wound that results in a tetanus infection is a deep puncture wound in areas of the body with reduced or little vascularity, hence lower oxygenation to the tissues. I would be happy to educate you on how tetanus 'works', and also why vaccination is protective - but I feel that dealing with a person with such a closed mind is a waste of time.
