Despite the chilly 18-degrees Celsius temperatures, some 2,000 Thais and foreigners willingly got out of bed in Mae Sot to join the “Run for Education without Frontiers” marathon and raise funds for the education of children living on the border of Tak province.

The event – split into a 5-kilometre half marathon and a 10km full marathon – kicked off at Mae Sot’s Mae Pa Klang School with a ceremony presided over by deputy district chief Kanpong Pipatmontrikul.

Siraporn Kaewsombat, secretary-general of Help Without Frontier Foundation, said the event was jointly organised by the foundation, the Tambon Mae Pa Administrative Organisation, the Primary Education Area 2 Office in Tak and youth clubs to raise funds to boost the quality of life for children living in the border area.

Congratulations to all for such a worthy cause. Pity funds could not be made from the Bangkok elite.
