Is it Possible to rename a thumb drive?

I have 2 identical Kingston thumb drives both are identified as Data Traveler 3.0.

I know it's possible to change the name of each drive, say to Tom and Jerry, in drives and devices but this does not change the Kingston identification name.

In some programs if both thumb drives are connected at the same time it will show two Data Traveler 3.0 drives but not the given names of Tom or Jerry.

Is it possible to change the Kingston identification name to something else so the two drives can't be confused with each other.

Yes possible but depends what you have installed to safely remove USB s etc.

Built in windows remove usbs does not do it(to my knowledge) but at least 2 paid progs that i know of do, namely USB safely remove from CrystalRich and Zentima xstorage manager. The good news is that both claim to give you 30 days fully functional free use before asking for paid product key.

Zentimo  https://zentimo.com/download.htm

How to change usb name https://zentimo.com/help/ht_changeNameOrImage.htm

(I use a portable version of Zentimo found on the web).

Hope this helps.

Just go into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management and change the name and letter to whatever you want. Sometimes the letter will change if you plug it into another PC, but the name will be the same.

Yes but if you go into the BIOS or want bring up the boot options it will still only show the manufacturers name "Data Traveler" not Tom or Jerry.

Another instance is if you want to restore a back up image it will show the available drives with the name "Data Traveler" not Tom or Jerry. In addition sometimes the drive letters will be different to what you've been using so it can be very confusing as to which drive to use in that instance.
