PHUKET: Police across Phuket have staged assemblies in a show of readiness and to announce their intention to do their best to reduce the number of deaths and injuries under the Seven Days of Danger road-safety campaign for New Year 2019.

The seven-day campaign starts at midnight tonight.

The public show of readiness began on Christmas Eve on Monday (Dec 24), when Region 8 Police Deputy Commander Maj Gen Chalit Thinthani presided over an assembly of officers at Phuket City Police Station, ordering them to ramp up their efforts to improve traffic safety and to tackle crime during the holiday period.

"As part of their drive to improve road-safety, Wichit Police along with Wichit Municipality launched their campaign yesterday (Dec 25), handing out leaflets to motorists reminding them to wear seatbelts and safety helmets, not to send phone messages while driving, and to not drink and drive."

Reminding them to comply with laws, some of which have been in place for decades. I bet the police can't wait for the campaign to be over, so they can get back to their normal job of doing nothing.

And extorting tourists, of course. How else are they going to pay their mortgages off!

That about covers the 'good driving' code then.

Mrs Owl, does not drink, does not text, puts on a seatbelt and does not play facebook when in front of the wheel. The only slightly negative slant, when she does get on the move, is passing those golden (white also), concrete buddhas. She does a big wai with her eyes closed. But only for a few seconds; maybe 5 at most.

We are going to get rich; big time!!

The "Seven Deadly Days" are statistically safer than any 'normal' day on the roads in Thailand.  Pick 7 random days out of a calendar and total the people killed on the road and the carnage is actually less on New Years and Songkran.
