Thai Social Security Coverage for Working and Retired from Working Expats

Looking for anyone with knowledge on the rules and coverage for a person who continues to pay the annual 9,000 baht Social Security Tax.

I have worked as an expat since 2000, on a Work Permit here in Thailand and have retired at the end of 2018. I am given to understand, that as long as I continue to pay the 9,000 baht, in monthly installments, my Thai Social Security will still cover medical at my designated hospital. Problem is I can find no information on what and/or how much of my medical expenses would be covered. Anyone know the answer?

I will be going to the Thai Social Security office in Siracha in February to try and find out more. I will post what I find out after that visit, but would like to have some idea first. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You maintain the exact same medical cover as before i.e. all inpt and outpt care covered.  No change, as long as you keep up the payments.

Are directors of their own companies still banned from applying for social security?

Thanks to all for the quick responses. I also had a company paid Health Insurance. Used it quite a bit, but not sure how much just the Thai Social Security would have covered.

For examples:

1) Does it cover Doctor appointments? If yes, is it 100%?

2) Does it cover in-patient, such as surgery and in-patient stays? If yes, is it 100%

3) Does it cover drugs? I was told yes, but only generic brands. Is that correct?

Thanks Again

1. Yes and yes. But only at the one hospital you are registered at under the system.

2. Yes and yes. But only at the one hospital or other hospital that they refer you to.

3. It is not limited to generics (some drugs don't have a local generic version) but they way the system is structured hospitals have a strong incentive to use generics where available.
