The Royal Thai Navy’s HTMS Chakri Naruebet has been put on standby for rescue missions in the wake of the tropical storm Pabuk.

The ship has been loaded with necessities and consumer goods, and is expected to depart Sattahip district, Chon Buri, on Friday afternoon for rescue operations. This vessel, assigned to lead the rescue operation, is expected to take 15 hours to reach the affected area.

The vessel, Thailand’s first and only aircraft carrier, will also be equipped with a complete rescue force and equipment, including four helicopters, a maritime aquatic life support team and a naval disaster assessment team.

Pabuk, the first tropical storm in decades to strike during the peak holiday season, is expected to make landfall on Friday evening with the eye passing over Nakhon Si Thammarat further to the south.

or how about this. since there is a military base every 10 feet in this country how about you put that stuff in those bases near the predicted landfall.  or just ask 7/11 to do. they have really great logistics.

At last the navy being asked to provide a useful function, first mention I have seen of any military intervention.

What does it take to tow a small aircraft carrier, exactly?

Does it need to be towed?

Does sit need tug assistance to maneuver into the correct place on arrival in the south?

Did it even make it to the South?  Good questions.

It's not like the ship in question gets a lot of regular seafaring travel.

..thus a good way to stock up on supplies and such...

I hope they are in better condition than the ones the army use
