A French tourist has been hospitalised after having a bad landing on the tow boat and ending up in the water while parasailing at Koh Naka Yai off the Paklok coast yesterday.

Thalang Police were notified of the incident off Koh Naka Yai at 5.25 pm.

Thalang Police report that the 57 year old French woman, Claudine Robinet, broke her left leg and hip with wounds on her knee and was taken to the Thalang Hospital. After that she was transferred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket.

Parasailing at 57, credit to her for her ambition.

I'm in my mid 50s and wouldn't risk it.

Not sure her risk assessment was thought out past the going up bit????

Sorry for the injured woman of course, but I never quite understand the mentality of presumably educated people, who try what are extreme sports for the first time, in a country like Thailand with its "relaxed" (!) attitude to health and safety.  I've sat on various Thai beaches over the years, watching these parasailing outfits: mostly ill-equipped, and poorly trained - they make me  shudder!

Sadly, I bet her travel insurance, if any, won't cover her medical bills either.

If you have ever seen a crew of tour group flunkies that operate these platforms, boats and shuttles , you might think twice about putting your life in their hands..
