Hello, I am heading back to Bangkok in a few days to request a CT Scan of my lower abdominal/pelvic area. I have been to Bangkok Christian a couple of times for the nagging pain and was told that nothing was wrong, but to keep an eye on it. It’s now been 6 weeks and it’s time to get to the bottom of the problem.

Can anyone offer some advice about where to have a CT Scan done? Also, any idea what price I will be dealing with? I have read that government hopitals are significantly cheaper, but I am a bit concerned about the quality and follow up regarding the CT results. Should I go back to Bangkok Christian? I was happy with the previous visits but am not sure about pricing compared to elsewhere.

Thanks!

You can get an MRI done at Princess Chulabhorn ...obviously see the tummy guy first...if you want his name PM me ... probably first he will suggest ultra sound ...

We went to BNH in Bangkok.

Bangkok Nursing Home - not for old people anymore, just their name still from an era gone by.

About $220 USD IIRC and we only had to wait 45 minutes.

Quality was good, image used in USA (which they hate because they want to get their fee).

Find that price hard to believe for a CT scan of lower ab.  At Vejthani Hospital, which is normally lower priced, paid about 25k last year with contrast.  Bangkok Nursing Hospital (was Bangkok Nursing Home decades ago) is normally one of the top tier hospitals with prices to match.

Bangkok Christian should be a fair price and not that much more than public hospitals (where you would not be able to obtain without doctors orders in any case) - and where safeguards may not be as good (a few people can and do have reactions to contrast material).

Be advised that not all possible causes of this will show on CT. Prostatitis, for example, would nto and is a common cause of pelvic pain in men.

At any hospital you cannot just request a CT, it has to be ordered by a doctor. There are different variants of CT for the abdominal area depending on what is suspected to be the cause.

While you can get a CT at an imaging center in demand, there is a risk in having contrast media injected outside of a hospital.

Also, one you have the CT, a doctor familiar with your clinical picture needs to interpret it. the reports you get from the radiologists here aren't usually worth much.

You really need to see a doctor and have him/her order the appropriate tests for the differential diagnosis. It sounds like your problem to date is that you have not yet found  a doctor willing to seriously investigate this.

What type of specialist(s)  have  you seen so far and what tests have been done? And where exactly is the pain? I ask because "lower abdominal/pelvic" could be GI or GU in origin and that requires different doctors.
