Best place to eat cheap and healthy (like tons of grilled vegetables) near Tiger Muay Thai?

(This is not about favorite restaurants, but about finding any restaurant that meets the requirements)

I'm looking for a nearby place that is clean and serves big grilled vegetable plates at cheap prices. Like this but even bigger: https://i.imgur.com/qJbidQC.jpg , and ideally more greens. I haven't been eating enough vegetables since I got here.

I live on Fighting Street but have a motorbike to get around, though I want to avoid anything further than 5 minutes away.

Fighting Street is expensive. The cheapest place I found, near Phuket Top Team, is 70 baht for a rather small grilled veggies + chicken plate. This would be fine if it were bigger, but as it is, it takes 2 meals to satiate me, so it's more like 140 baht. I'm sure there's better places to go to off Fighting Street, but I don't know the area.

I know it would be cheaper to cook at home but I don't want to.

Any suggestions?

I can't help you with your 5-minute ride requirement as I don't live near you, but I have one or two tips.

Firstly, I don't think that grilled veggies are very Thai so you probably won't find them and if you do, they won't be very cheap.

However, stir-frying retains most of the nutrients in veggies so there are many Thai options.

Second, if you can stop the cook putting lots of sugar in the food, you will get much closer to a well-balanced diet in Thailand. I'm sure people will have asked for this in cheap Thai places near Muay Thai training camps. You can find the correct phrase for "no sugar" online.

Lastly, and least helpfully, there is exactly the restaurant you're looking for ... in Rawai!
Sorry, but it's maybe a bit far away for you. Nevertheless, it's called Cheap Ass Thai Food (no shit!) and it is fresh, plain and simple Thai food with no MSG and no sugar, if you ask. I love the food there. We're dieting at the moment and we eat there at least twice or three times a week. Their mixed vegetables with oyster sauce is a veggie paradise, and you can probably get it without the oyster sauce as well. It's not the very cheapest food but if you fancy it for a change, pm me and I'll send directions.

Happy hunting!

Thanks.

I found it here:  https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g297934-d7222257-r354032064-Cheap_Ass-Rawai_Phuket.html

I might not use it for daily meals, but I'll check it out for occasional self-indulgence.

Thanks for the recommendation, and sending me directions to the restaurant (via pm).

Like the OP, I've found it difficult to find delicious, freshly cooked veg - so was interested in this thread.

I went there yesterday and bought 3 dishes.  They were all stir fried (in plain sight) to order, and delicious!  I'll be using them a lot in the future .

Vegetables in Thailand are full of pesticides, unless you grow them yourself.

Good point.

Those of us who aren't keen on cooking for themselves all the time - are hoping that the restaurant has thoroughly washed the veg. in a 'wash' that includes a 'get rid of the pesticides soap' soak.

But I agree, that this is unlikely .

Think there are two aspects to the OP.   One, obviously, is healthy vegetables, and secondly cost seems to be a major factor.   Virtually all vegetables in particular, and food in general here, tends to be stir fried.    The quality and age of the oil is something you have to decide yourself.

Where you're living (and I live not far away), the restaurant/cafe food is geared towards protein dishes, and the costs, whilst not expensive, are higher given the limited number of customers (you won't see Thais eating there, unless someone else is paying for it).

As I said at the beginning, vegetables tend to be chopped small and stir fried.   A better option is going to somewhere that does steamed vegetables, as an example, 'Ceros', a Korean restaurant a few hundred metres from Soi Tai Ed (where you are staying), does a variety of dishes that come with steamed vegetables as an accompaniment.   You also have Oh-Oh at the corner of Tai Ed and Chaofa West, as well as the ever popular We Cafe, one km up the road on Chaofa West at the Kwang Road traffic lights, with all of their home grown salad vegetables.

My wife is semi vegetarian (no meat, only fish/seafood), and she has no problem finding good food.   I also like the salad bar in the Central Food court, which if you have a fridge in your accommodation, get a couple of meals and save one for the next day.

Here's a few photos from Ceres, not the food I actually ordered, only the side dishes that came with it, all of which were vegetables (except for one with fish), and the cost wasn't added to the bill (about 240 baht for the meal I did order).   They also have Leo on draught.......
