The pro-Prayut Palang Pracharat party has come up with a set of populist policies ahead of the general election just nine days away, including a daily national minimum wage of 400-450 baht.

When unveiling the policies at the party’s HQ today, party leader Uttama Savananaya asserted that they are not pipe dreams and will be implemented if the party is in the next government.

The party also promises a 20,000 baht starting salary for BA graduates, 12,000 baht for a tonne of paddy, 65 baht per kg for para rubber and a minimum of five baht for a kg of oil palm seeds.

Sadly Thais will look at those numbers and vote accordingly...they have not the capacity to think this through or see it for what it is.

Bangkok Thais will vote 'yellow' (aka army), Laos speaking Thais will vote 'red' (aka Thaksin)

Laos speakers are in the majority so they will win any fair election as always.

No need for thinking or reading.

It's a feudal system and you vote for your ruler.

Always easy to make promises with other people's money ????

Like former governments of TS and TY, errrr TS did, besides taking very good care of their own needs.

Good to see you consider yourself to. be in position to speak for everyone and refer to yourself as “we”

That reminds me of a quote by Margaret Thatcher.

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”

For socialism use Populism.

Haha, actually my comment was based on her quote ????

With so many terminally ill and dying buffaloes in the country (according to Thai bar girls) how can they come up with piles of this every day?

The trick is to promise enough so people vote for you but not so much that people think that you are full of crap and you won't actually deliver when you are elected. I think this is right on the edge and people may actually believe him.

I don't know how they're going to afford it because when these monsters get back in there's going to be a lot more subs, tanks, jets. helicopters etc from their good ol' Chinese mates. ????

It is always better for economics to determine wages, and not governments.   Think they make see some writing on the wall, as the junta largely blamed by the average Thai for hampering the economy, while supporting the wealthy.  Some people go as far to say that the military has kept Thailand from developing.  Are migrants going to get a minimum wage too ?  More mind numbing, half baked ideas courtesy of junta:  feeble minded, Thailand wide.

Most political parties have their policies in place long before the election takes place and base their campaigns on such.

This is like an afterthought on the eve of advance voting, and after overseas voting's taken place, written by a couple of guys on the back of a fag packet.

The guys using the fag packet, are obviously not economists if the impairment just half of what they say, inflation will take off the economy would go downhill big time, this lot have spent most of the country's money, then they would have the job of calling in the IMF/World Bank........again

But us farangs could be happy, the baht would drop, giving us a better exchange rate.

As has been said they will not win, just vote catching.
