Buying BMW Parts - Best Place?

Featured Replies

Hi

I need a new battery for an F10 528i...

BMW quoted 25,000 Baht and while I usually prefer manufacturer parts - not for Tyres, Batteries or Windscreen Wipers. Their Tyre prices are 3x Be Quick for the same thing, batteries seem more inflated than that.

I did look at BeQuick web site but I didn't even recognize the brand they use.

Any suggestions for named brand batteries for Beemers?

Cheers

Pete

Be aware depending on your model year, if your BMW has IBS (intelligent battery sensor), you must replace with same type and capacity or you will need to register the new battery with the car's ECU so it knows the correct charging profile. This can be done either by the dealer or via one of the third-party coding apps at home.

If you want to ask advice and/or have the work done by a bmw specialist I found kwauto on ekamai 21 to be very good - professional, experienced, reasonable price and give you honest opinion on whether something should be done or delayed.

We used them after our previous BMW was out of warranty after 5 years; now we a year or so into warranty period of current BMW so no need, but we would have no hesitation in using them again.

Maybe you don't need them now to do the work, but they may advise you.

Sounds like it's worth a visit, thanks!

It certainly does - it's a 2014 - so this is the first battery replacement.  AutoBahn said they could do the ECU thing.... but I will try KW I think.

When I bought a new bike battery, could not find Yuasa, so went with a GS.

The batteries are identical - apart from the color of the decal on the front.

GS battery is GTZ8V - Yuasa YTZ8V - even the sticker on the back is identical.

My take - neither company makes batteries, they are subbed out to a battery manufacturer.

GS and Yuasa were Japanese battery manufacturers that merged in 2004 to form GS-Yuasa.  Prior to the merger, they both had factories, under local companies, in Thailand.  These factories still produce batteries under their own names, even though the design from their parent company is the same.

Correct...
