I think the murder rate is higher in the PH than other countries in Asia. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As for Thailands future pertaining to immigration:  History to date has demonstrated significant restrictions that have made Thailand no longer the Elysium of safe and easy harbor. It is still a great place, but it is changing.

I too do not have skin in the game. 

But I am concerned for some,  most probably older and financially stressed folk who may jump on the Philippines band wagon without thinking it through, only seeing the positives at this time in their lives and ignoring the negatives.

There is always a reason why some places are cheap and some places more expensive.

Its like going to a restaurant here.

1 restaurant have 9 oz rib-eye on the menu for 1700 peso.

Another restaurant have identical rib-eye for 999 peso.

Guess which is best? The cheapest one.

A Chef can kill a good ribeye.

The bad: only 1/2 inch in thickness here.

And this pretty much looks like a frozen ribeye, and nicely marbled and thick cut... But I can't quite make out the local per kilo pricing on that.  Though the price for that particular steak would be about 740b equivalent.

 

Locals here eat local produced pork, pork, pork, some chicken, and fish. Seldom / never beef or steaks.

 

Locals raise pork in numbers you wouldn't believe. Its supposed to be for their small piggery, but most pig get slaughtered  before age 2 and eaten by the family.

 

Fresh meat in photos taken in supermarket, are local produce.

Imports are the frozen steaks in photos mostly from New Zeland.

You keep citing cheap as the reason.....its not the cost in Thailand that is making people move, its the feeling and treatment towards foreigners that is making people move.

Most come to a point where they had more than enough. And then some.

If people here could be honest when they post, most of them know of expats who already left, last 2 years, and increased last 2 months. They know why expats left: Immigration.

Expats had 800.000+ per year but not in thai bank, so living cost in TH has nothing to do with their leaving.

if u notice in a country that year after year its getting more complicated and more of a hassle to met all the latest requirements to stay then why not look to at another country where this is not happening.

most countries welcome retirees staying in their country. Maybe u dont mind feeling unwelcome but others do mind that.

Don't doubt those figures.  One of the reasons I like living here.  No bullshit at all.  Cops never come out of the station.  Just collect the tax on the ice going to Chiang aRai.

Elite i dont want as i dont plan 20 years ahead.

why i cant simply pay 25 k for a year visa with unlimited coming and goings?

It's not about affording Thailand, it's the visa rules and visa changes.

There are many nations that have financial requirements well under Thailand's levels.

There is no direct relation between visa requirement financial requirements and the actual cost to live in a place.

It's dumb and simplistic to think that everyone leaving, everyone being forced out, everyone thinking about leaving because of the visa changes is leaving because they can't afford Thailand.
