The Battle of the Bigs - Big Joke told to hand in his uniform by Big Tu

Thai Rath reported in their headline that Big Joke had been told to hand in his police uniform.

Big Tu - the prime minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha had condemned him to just being a civil servant from now on.

While Big Pom - deputy PM and defense minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan - cried off with tummy trouble.

And Big Pe - national police chief Gen Chakthip Chaijinda - remained tight-lipped and cancelled a meeting.

His deputy Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul was only slightly more forthcoming - but he told reporters not to speculate as he issued plenty of denials.

None of the Bigs were prepared to reveal the nature of any charges against the former immigration chief - though now it is known he is on a list of officials under investigation.

Meanwhile the man at the center of all the drama - Lt-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn - the former poster boy of the Royal Thai Police, shuffled around quietly reporting to one place and another like a naughty schoolboy.

He ended the day at 4.45 reporting for duty in a ten minute encounter with deputy PM Visanu Krua-ngarm to accept his role as "special adviser" in the PM's office.

Visanu said very little after except to tell people that Surachate had met with him.

Thai Rath presented a tumultuous day of comings and goings in a timeline from 8.30 pm to early evening.

The upshot was that none of the "Bigs" were saying anything of note and thus the speculation was as rife as ever.

Thaivisa notes that with a planned meeting at 1.30 pm today also cancelled until further notice it remains to be seen when the press and a baying Thai as well as foreign public are going to be any the wiser on what has caused this abrupt fall from grace of Big Joke.

It's kind of alarming what power Big Tu has over not only RTP but anyone who might be a problem.

Not sure what Big Joke has done wrong but it must be something really serious to get demoted to such a lesser rank than before.

He's definitely gone then, and not coming back.

The level of secrecy involved suggests he has upset someone very high up the totem pole, and which may cause a significant stir among the populace if revealed.

He upset me but I don't think that caused any ripples so probably not relevant. ????

Or it could just be a massive dictatoral power play.

Not quite blowing up your uncle with an anti-aircraft weapon. But a pretty impress public display of power and show of who is the boss.

Yes, but in that episode (blowing up your uncle) it was very obvious to all just who was calling the shots. Here isn't it a little bit less certain?

So inform the public why Big Joke was s***-canned. Aren't we supposed to be about a month away from having a 'democratically-elected government?'

So to tell how much trouble he is in, just watch for the next set of clothes. A nice suit and maybe he is OK. A prison uniform and we know he isn't.

This again fits with earlier speculation that BJ's complete erasure somehow relates to the election and its outcome (to come). Gen Prayut's top assignment since long before the coup has been to keep the influence of one fugitive ex-prime minister Mr. Thaksin as far from Thailand as possible. He is now on a virtual rampage and all the other 'big's  are cowering. Also remember he stripped Thaksin's symbolic honors almost the same day as BJ was cut. Now BJ losses his police uniform!

Maybe as some say, it's all about BJ's grandstanding but I don't think that alone would trigger the PM so strongly when the PM is concerned so much about election outcomes.

Think they are just waiting for Ronnie Biggs to confirm He's definitely gone then, and not coming back he is still unfortunately dead but should be available for alibi's if required????

How come he like all the others had to buy his own uniform.

Correct statement should have been, told to hand in the insignia of rank.

Spare a though for the Maj-Gen who has to unpick all that stitching????

The amount of money that must have been 'pumped' into Thailand due to the broken immigration system allowing people to hop from visa to visa since the early 90s must be ELEPHANTINE....even more so when you factor in the economic term "the velocity of money"...maybe that is why the place left the Philippines in the dust.

Yes, there are more 'bad actors' now doing the long-stay visa game...Nigerian scammer and other newer nationalites doing more blatant and big crimes...but the majority of farang just want to base themselves here and live off rent/passive income etc and don't necessarily want to buy the rip-off Elite visa.

The game goes on.

Just now, KiChakayan said:

His objective was to reduce the number of retirement extensions of stay granted during  Q4 2018 and Q1 2019 by 50%. He failed, end of story.

You know that from media info or just speculation ?

Sounds about right...UK expats are about double the nearest other nationality.

Yes I agree. As far as I know cops buy their own uniforms and gun.

Probably had to hand in the insignias and other salad dressing.

They wouldn't want his old uniform.

Buy one of those for 300 baht at JJmarket.   Lol
