Gonzo the Face Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Talking about CM now, and I know the answer is out there. Talking about Grab Taxi Service. For someone disabled and totally using a wheelchair, do they offer a service for folks like this in CM?
NancyL Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 The new city buses have lifts that make them wheelchair accessible. How do you normally get around now, Gonzo? Can you get in and out of a car with the assistance of just one person? Does your wheelchair fit in the trunk/boot of a normal car like a Toyota Vios? With Grab, you never know what type of vehicle is going to answer your call. I suppose that after a driver has accepted your ride, you could send a message that you are in a wheelchair and are going to need assistance getting in and out of the vehicle. Sometimes the drivers use tall vehicles like pick-up trucks or four-wheel drive vehicles that are difficult for elderly people to enter and exit.
Peasandmash Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 (edited) you may be able to message or ask the Grab driver? They do want your business. Edited April 11, 2019 by Peasandmash 1

Most of the time in the past couple years I have been getting around by Tuk Tuk. Had a regular one that was used. Now that is coming to an end. Was a little awkward boarding now with one leg, but with the aid of the driver was able to be done. I now need to have a back-up plan either another Tuk or was looking into the possibility of Uber/Grab type transport for bad weather days. Wheelchair folds up pretty much so hasn't been a problem yet in any event.
CMoldie Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 So far as I am aware, they do not offer any specific service. Can you use an unmodified car with the assistance of a friend? If you can, do that a few times and, when you have found a driver with a suitable vehicle and the right attitude, get their phone number. After that, you contact them outside the app when you need them. Price when you do this should be less (by 15-25%) than standard Grab fares, because the driver is not paying commission to Grab.

I suspect your former tuk tuk driver helped and I've found that some Grab drivers aren't very helpful -- they just aren't used to helping elderly or handicapped people, but most want to try. Some are excellent; it's evident they've been helping grandma or grandpa for years.
