Julian Assange arrested by British police at Ecuadorean embassy

 

 

LONDON (Reuters) - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested by British police on Thursday after they were invited into the Ecuadorean embassy where he has been holed up since 2012.

 

"Julian Assange, 47, has today, Thursday 11 April, been arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) at the Embassy of Ecuador," police said.

 

Police said they arrested Assange after being "invited into the embassy by the Ambassador, following the Ecuadorean government's withdrawal of asylum."

He is 47 years old I believe.  The video clip on the Sun newspaper website has him looking more like 67 years old and similar in appearance to Sadam when he was arrested ==> unshaven and unkempt.

That he has questions to answer wrt to his part in the Russian meddling in the 2916 US elections is a bit of a bonus to his arrest.

Yes, but skipping bail means you'll lose it. And if arrested later face the original charges. In this case there is no more an original charge since the Swedish prosecutor dropped it some time ago.

Is there another incident in UK where the police (i.e. government) went into great expense (money wise) to get somebody for skipping bail, where the original charges were already dropped?

 

I have been following this story from the very beginning when Julian was invited to do a speech in Sweden....

What has followed is just absurd.

that is why I put Official  between "  ", as the high costs and efforts never would be done for a common plain criminal …. but if  being the U.K.lackey of the USA  ...that' s another thing

The charges were not dropped,the Swedish police just stopped trying once it became clear that he was staying put in the embassy,the charges remain on the books.Who gets first dibs on him the Swedish should because the jumping bail was on extradition to Sweden,have the USA actually asked for extradition?

He's a legend in his own mind. The only country who offered him sanctuary he crapped on, Ecuadorans should rejoice. The world didn't become a better place for what he did, it just learned a few lessons.

That is the reason. Breaking bail is a serious offense, which inevitably results in an arrest. There is no "statute of limitations" for it. Standing (grandstanding) on the balcony of the embassy into which you have run, addressing the press of the country whose bail you have jumped, is just silly.

 

I suppose that if the USA asks for him, it will drag through the courts for quite some time. He will be kept in custody, no way will he get bail!

 

I presume that the RSPCA has the cat?
