Phichit provincial administration will hold the “World Mango Day” fair from Thursday to next Tuesday, deputy governor Somsak Chantharasombat said on Tuesday.

The fair will be held in front of Sak Lek district office.

As part of the event, there will be a mango-eating competition and a mango spicy salad -making contest.

There will also be a best-mango competition for various species, including the famous golden Nam Dok Mai and Ban Lad varieties, Somsak said.

Visitors can shop for mangoes and products made from the fruit at the fair, which is being held to promote Phichit-grown mangoes.

Some 4,900 families grow mangoes on 27,500 rai (4,400 hectares) of orchards in the province, the deputy governor added.

If they promoted recipes that involved purified mango via use of a liquidiser, they could rename it 'Whirled Mango Day.'
