Three armed robbers raided a pawnshop on Soi Phetchkasem 63 in Bangkok's Bang Khae district on Thursday morning and got away with 10 items of jewellery worth at least Bt300,000 and Bt30,000 in cash.

Phetchkasem superintendent Colonel Wutthichai Thaiwat inspected the scene while pawnshop owner Sirichai Asaipanich, 61, who sustained a head injury from being hit by the butt of a firearm, was taken to Kasemrad Hospital in Bang Khae.

The police said Sirichai was opening the pawnshop alone at 8am when three suspects, one wearing a full helmet and the two others wearing face masks, raided the shop.

One suspect carried a gun and another a knife. When Sirichai resisted he was hit in the head and face multiple times until he fell down.

The suspects then opened the glass cabinets and stole 10 items and cash before fleeing on two motorcycles in the Samut Sakhon direction.

Police suspected that the robbers had learned the pawnshop routine to commit the crime when Sirichai was alone. CCTV was being checked and witnesses interviewed, Wutthichai said.

Absolute rubbish, both of you.

The Thai people are just as honest as the world average. I've lived here for over 20 years. You cannot use the experience most have gained about Thai's in the entertainment districts with those of the Thai general population.

Also, the Thai economy is not impoverished. It is thriving very well. I don't see how you could make this claim.

People have been struggling to make ends meet for a quite a few years here now, especially those involved with commodities that have nosedived like certain crops and rubber, maybe take a walk outside your castle. I've lived here more than 16 years and never in a 'entertainment district'. You don't have a clue..

Couldn't agree more, most Thais I know haven't 2 baht coins to rub together.they live day by day.the Thai economy might be doing ok but the people don't get the benefits of this, all the farmers are poor and the only one making money are the middle men.as for entertainment districts.i live in the jungle and real world..as for Thais being honest, well I don't know where cowboy gets that one from.
