Local elections deliver Brexit bashing for Britain's May and opposition

Featured Replies

The latest Brexiteer demand is just Leave with no deal, a course of action that was only ever meant as a threat to get a deal.

No sane person believes leaving without a deal is anything but self harm and yet you have the effrontery to come on here accusing Remain supporters of being their own biggest enemy.

Brexit failed to plan, planned to fail.

If you backed Brexit, you backed this failure, quit this garbage of claiming the very people who opposed this idiocy are the cause of this mess.

C/h..
Why do you always rabbit on in this vein??
Seems to me you cannot help but waffle..waffle..waffle repeatedly that Brexiteers own this and that.
Matter of interest... can any Forum poster tell me if you can buy waffles in belguim??
Thankd

People are already tired of it. That's why the BP will do much better than you think.

Won't gain even 1 MP. Same as the old UKIP (but with much less support). Farage is yesterday's man.

All this arguing is so far away from the reality of the situation as it is today.  Parliament has ruled out a 'no-deal' Brexit, that is off the table, The EU parliament has ruled out further negotiation of the Brexit deal, that is off the table.

When , not if, the 2nd. referendum takes place the two options will consist of   (1) I accept the May deal and wish to leave the EU.

                   (2) I wish to remain in the EU and for article 50 to be withdrawn.

Those are the options, forget about Farage et al.  Just a sideshow.

Wrong options..
Proper options

1.LEAVE..NO DEAL

2.LEAVE..a conservative/marxist deal.

That's the proper way..as 17.4 million votes for LEAVE won the day not too long ago.

"Sideshow Nigel" great nickname for him.

2:15 onwards. Nigel to a T.

Thanks for that Mr Meme. (You need to get some new ones, repeating the same memes again and again is boring) .

Why would either of them care about the election of MEPs if we're leaving the EU shortly?

Or maybe you and they now realise that we're probably not leaving after all.
You love your dreams..can you please tell me this years Champions League Cup winning team.

What this article lacks are a few facts. First the council elections are to elect councillors not MPs so the “party” stance on Brexit is not entirely relevant, particularly in the case of the Lib Dems. The lack of support for the both the Conservatives and Labour, is an indication of a “protest vote” over the Brexit stalemate in Parliament, with the third party picking up some of the slack by default.

The EU elections should never take place and if they do it will most probably see the biggest shake up of British party politics since Labour took over from the Liberals a hundred years ago.

What everyone forgets is that the stalemate has been caused by the EU's own rules, which prohibit any separate trade negotiations with a member state. The backstop is inevitable and can only be solved by a trade deal, which both sides want.

To leave the EU the UK must leave the Single Market and the Customs Union or find we have left in name only. That would mean having to continue to subsidise the continent, be unable to negotiate worldwide trade deals of our own, be forced to abide by EU rules including the free movement of people, and all that without a seat at the EU member’s table. That is wholesale surrender and a white flag should fly over Westminster the day that happens.

What these self-seeking MPs are doing is treacherous, if not quite treasonous, and anti-democratic (like the EU itself) and they should all hang their heads in shame as they have all voted on article 50 and committed to abide by the 2016 referendum result.

The tough talking needs to be done once we are officially out and the trade negotiations begin. The devil is in the detail, so let’s get on with it.

Elections for MEPs have always been a damp sqib. Very low turnouts, mainly by people with extreme views.

Farage may or may not preform well in the Euro elections, it's in no way a representation of the feelings of the general public. The outcome will be ignored, just as it always has been. An irrelevance.

Yeah. Right. It was ignored and so irrelevant last time that we got the referendum. Damp squib ha ha.

Tell that to David Cameron who called for a referendum on the back of a particularly bad showing for the Tories who lost out to UKIP in the 2015 local elections.

You might not put much store in local elections but politicians do.

Completely wrong. It was the rise of UKIP in the 2015 local elections that made Cameron crap his pants. Nothing to do with the Euro elections.

I left Belgium/Europe in 2000.

I will always been an European ( Geographically) whatever Belgium may eventually decide in the future.

Not really care about the E.U..

I am married to a Thay lady, and upon my death she will receive 75% of my last pension amount, till she die or remarried.

This is a Belgian regulation, other countries of the E.U. have different regulations.

When a foreigner wants to stay in Flanders, he has to follow integration courses, which include learning the language.

Different rules in other countries of the E.U..

Which means the E.U. may impose some regulations, but the final decisions about many subjects is in hands of each particular country.

Therefore I don't see for the particular, as myself, the big fuss about being in the E.U. or not.

But of course we are all different.

I don't play the flute but I was referring to the fact that Farage is no longer part of the Brexit Party.

The tough talking needs to be done once we are officially out and the trade negotiations begin. The devil is in the detail, so let’s get on with it.

I'll make it simple. By virtue of the UK being in the EU, we have trade deals in place with the other EU countries plus over 40 trade deals from those countries outside the EU, including Japan. To leave the EU, those deals would have to be renegotiated, and whilst some will involve an agreement to continue as before, not all will adhere to that or want better terms.

Secondly, look at your supermarket shelves, which are full of goods from all parts of the globes; your high street shops, similar, as are most industries and businesses. I find it nonsensical to rip all that apart and start from scratch. Or would you prefer chlorinated chickens from the USA whose health standards are far short of EU standards?

So in a few word, trade deals are not the be all and end all of the holy grail.

Imagine for a moment that UKIP had gained only half of the number of seats that they actually lost.

On second thoughts don't go there.

The noise coming out of Brexiteers after what was so obviously a very negative set of results for Brexit is bad enough.

You will have to take that back or face the Green Hornet! CON did fine in the 2015 local elections, they gained control of 32 councils. On the same day they also did rather well in the general elections! The promise to hold an EU referendum was already made in the Tory manifesto by then.

In the 2014 European elections UKIP did stunningly well and took more than 4.3 million British votes to send 24 MEPs (out of 73) to Brussels - this is what prompted Cameron to finally confirm the EU referendum would happen in his manifesto. At least on that, he kept his word.

Yes, I am waiting to see, if your version of reality turns out to be unreal.

Did the Parliament rule out a No-deal Brexit? Yes or No?

Did the EU announce that they will not make changes to the agreement with T.May? Yes or No?

What possible options are there other than accepting 'the deal' or revoking article 50?

There are no versions of reality..... just reality.
