Eleven vehicles have been damaged after a collision allegedly caused by a drunk driver in a sedan in Pattaya early this morning.

Mueang Pattaya Police were notified of the incident at 4.30am this morning on Pattaya Tai Road in Chon Buri.

Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene to find the damaged Nissan sedan on the road. Nearby they found the driver, 22 year old Surachai Takaew, who tested positive for a high blood alcohol reading (he was drunk AS!).

That’s weird when there was a police check point happening at the time . Police check point was on the cross roads of Pattaya tai and 3 road.

New Japanese-type traffic rules:   drunk while driving = no licence for 6 months.  Please to take bus.

Perhaps he was trying to get away from that. This could have been much worse, imagine if a few kids were being carried on the bikes that were hit. This is exactly the type of driver that should be banned for an extended time. Hopefully his insurance won't repair his vehicle.

His insurance most certainly will not be covering any damages at all.

Even 3rd Party damage? Not a very good result for all the bikes that were hit.

A deterrent might be a good start, to discourage this kind of recklessness. Take away his license, and his car. There has to be a limit. Ten vehicles? There has to be a line that one crosses, where more severe penalties will be imposed. Otherwise, what is society? A free for all?

Yeh but the cops would only be looking for Farangs to pull over, thais dont have as much money as farangs (usually). and a threat of jail and deportation etc.

If he's like the majority of Thais he won't have insurance.

They probably will pay the injured parties but will demand repayment from the driver, I think that's the way it works in the UK anyway.

AH!!!!!! Poor old Thai reporters could not expand the words Falang  Foriegner crashes car while drunk.

But 500 fine and work your own compensation out.

Well that stops them having a tax sticker too.

TAT are pleased to announce that NO families were injured in this incident, the world class resort is still safe!

Latest comment from your jungle clearing somewhere in Isaan. Some folk would love to live in Pattaya, but aren't allowed to so they become incredibly jealous and just slag off Pattaya, despite never having visited here. Just sit outside your bamboo hut and let us in Pattaya appreciate what a great town we live in.

Insurance 3 are mandatory to get the tax sticker. (and thereby make it legal)

It covers insurance to any third party’s injury, or death. But only that.

i know 3 girls in my local bar do not possess a driving livence, so no insurance, must be tens of thousands of them,  out there, and when caught its just a 400 baht backhander, that is until the shit hits the fan.
