Prawit defends appointment of Gen Prayut’s brother as senator

 

 

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan today defended the appointment of retired General Preecha Chan-o-cha, the younger brother of Prime Minister Prayut, as a senator.

 

He said Gen Preecha is qualified as he was a member of the military-appointed National Legislative Assembly.

 

When reporters questioned him today about General Preecha’s frequent absence from NLA meetings, he claimed to be unaware of the problem and asked the reporters to raise the question directly with the general.

Is this the same Brother that had the house built in Phitsanulok without all the appropriate permissions and nothing has apparently been done about it ?

This guy is soooo sickening. Actually they all are and seem to think their self imposed authority of supreme military hard rule can fix and justify everything even if the majority of all the real Thai citizens disagree. The only ones who are giddy and smiling are them and the elite. Don't figure! I am just waiting to see how PTT and FFP go after to get them. Hope there is some bite. Democrats better not cower or they will be complete wussies. Doesn't matter if they do not go with PTT, but just stay course and neutral.

I would not mind anybody being nominated, normally that is.  But when nominations don't have to be ratified, well, then nepotism not to mention some other things can come into play.  In the USA, JFK nominated his Brother Robert to be the Attorney General, but that had to be confirmed by the Senate.  Thai politics and government, well, it is made up all the time so any names or titles are pretty much meaningless since the PM basically has dictatorial powers.  Such an embarrassment to other countries but what can Thai people do?

It's not 'nepotism'  per see here in Thailand, it's just 'business as usual'. The Military are allowed to conduct fully commercial ventures, run the airports and the ports and invest in projects totally unrelated to their Military responsibilities, such as they are,  It's jobs for the boys in every sector of Thai life, so Prayut is just following the normal course of things here.

If there is one thing you can count on from this hapless army, is that they will never, ever appoint anyone based on merit, and always appoint someone based on cronyism, connections, support, or family ties.

The purpose and intent of the bicameral parliamentary system has been violated by this junta. The upper house has the responsibility to scrutinize the house of representatives. The senators need to be better qualified in terms of qualification and seniority and must not be involved as family members. Besides the need for election, they must not be in a political position for more than 5 years to the application date or date of nomination. All those original requirements have been violated by this government and the upper house looks more like a half-way house for family members and associates.

Wasn't he the same guy who never showed up to meetings a year or two ago?  Showing up for a foregone conclusion is a waste of time as are most of the current junta meetings.  The only qualification he needs are nepotism, a pulse and knowledge of whereabouts of the rubber stamp.

Thailand has a healthy government. There is no evidence of corruption scurrying to defend cronyism or nepotism as the OP picture would suggest. There are only altruistic people with good intentions taking care of the beloved country and its institutions. And they will continue to do so with the blessing of everyone who matters. Amen
