Thai army to buy 37 US-made armored cars

Thai-Armed-Force.jpg

The Royal Thai Army has placed an order for thirty seven 1126 Stryker armored cars from the United States, valued at an estimated US$80 million, under the Foreign Military Sales program.

An informed army source said that the US-made armored cars are expected to be delivered this year and deployed at the 11th Light Infantry Division based in Thailand’s eastern province of Chachoengsao.

The arms deal signifies a warming of relations between the Thai army and US armament sector after the Thai army had switched to other sources, such as China and Ukraine, during the five years following the coup which toppled the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in 2014.

If only they could put the utilities in good order first,so the

electricity does not go off everytime it rains or it gets a little

windy,or a constant water pressure ,these things would improve

everyone's life, but never happens, not enough commission in it.

Whom does Thailand see as its enemies ?,maybe their own

population, who one day might say enough is enough,

I thought there was a recent piece on Thai built armoured vehicles that would be rather cheaper than these US beasties.

They have probably "bought" themselves another years worth of good "PR" from the western media!

As well as a few nice new Mercs

It's a relatively minor deal, as such things go. Countries buying a whole lot more don't necessarily get good PR from "western media" (as if this was a single construct). Many times, quite the opposite.

Kinda. There's a local manufacturer that's more experienced with non-armored (or lightly armored) vehicles. Lady running the show is quite a character with an interesting business bio (especially the early days). Don't know if it would come out cheaper, as some of these US arms deals can be de-facto subsidized some via aid budgets, and probably payment plan is better spread. Then there are commissions...

What they are getting now seems a bit over the top, maybe compensating for the previous Ukraine/Russian fare.

Must be the sound democratic principles they adhere to then, something gives with the western media, never giving them a hard time!

Need to up the volume to match Saudi reckon that would work!

Never is a big word. More like there are worse places in the world. And, of course, given certain local laws and sensitivities, much of the criticism published isn't on offer on local venues (such as TVF).
