hip replacement,bangkok phuket hospital ok?

Featured Replies

I need to have a hip replacement done, would the bangkok hospital in Phuket be ok for that?,does anyone know?,or are there other hospitals in Phuket that can do something like that?,or is it perhaps better to go to Bangkok,if so which hospital would be ok up there?,thank you for your help.

Have you checked / compared fees for this specific operation and the actual replacement knee?

The hospital you mentioned (all of their locations) is regarded as outrageously expensive for everything.

Is you have total insurance cover maybe not so much of an issue.

The issue is not the hospital but the surgeon.

Looking at the orthos at Bkk Phuket Hospital I see only one who seems to have had specific training in arthroplasty, and that in Phuket, and   he is fairly junior.

There is a well regarded German orthopedic surgeon at Pattaya International Clinic. I know he does knee replacements but don't know if he does hips. But if not he would probably be best placed to recommend the best surgeon for this in Phuket (and indeed whether to ubndergo this in Phuket at all) so worth consulting him

In Bangkok there are plenty of very experienced western-trained specialists in hip replacement. So I would say that unless Dr. Gerhard is able to do this or gives a strong endorserment for another surgeon in Phuket, you think of coming to Bangkok.

suggested surgeons for this in Bangkok:

I defer to Sheryl but know Vejthani Hospital is very active for such surgery (King of Bone) as of late and expect costs would be less than top tier (but as said doctors are key).  These two full time doctors appear to have professional hip replacement experience.

Ask the DR. how many hip replacements he or she does, ten or less a month stir clear not enough experience.
