Crime Russian Man Assaulted and Robbed in Pattaya
UPDATE Russian Tourist Assaulted in Pattaya: Leads to Drug Arrests Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 54-year-old Russian national, identified only as Mr Gurov, filed a police complaint following a violent assault and robbery that left him unconscious in an overgrown vacant lot in Pattaya. The incident, which occurred late on the night of 8 June, has led to the arrest of two Thai men on multiple charges, including possession of illegal drugs. Mr Gurov, who sustained a head injury in the attack, presented himself at Pattaya Police Station’s Khong Dong Tan Branch in the early hours of 9 June. He reported that he had been attacked and robbed in a vacant lot located near Wat Boonkanchanaram. After regaining consciousness, he sought assistance from his wife and friends before going to the police. Officers from Pattaya Tourist Police and local law enforcement reviewed CCTV footage, which led to the identification of the suspects. Later police arrested two men, 40-year-old Paisal and 38-year-old Kitti, at an abandoned building at the entrance to Soi Chaiyapruek 2 in Pattaya. During the arrest, officers discovered 44 methamphetamine tablets and two bags of crystal methamphetamine in the suspects’ possession. During police interrogation, Paisal admitted to the assault, claiming he had left his two-year-old daughter unattended on his motorcycle taxi to relieve himself in nearby bushes. He alleged that upon returning, he saw the foreign tourist inappropriately touching the child. In a rage, he claimed to have struck Mr Gurov on the head with a piece of wood before stealing a ring and a bag, which he reportedly claimed contained no valuables. He then fled the scene. Further investigation revealed that Paisal has a lengthy criminal history, including six prior arrests, four related to drugs and two for theft. He now faces charges of assault, theft, and drug possession. His accomplice, Kitti, has been charged with possession of illegal narcotics. Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing. On 10th June 2025, Thai Prime Minister Phaetongtarn Shinawatra chaired a meeting at Government House to address illegal foreign business operations in Thailand. The session included officials from various ministries, such as Finance, Commerce, and Industry, emphasising the need for decisive legal enforcement against violations. Phaetongtarn stressed the importance of using stringent laws to combat illegal activities like unlawful imports, misrepresentation of foreign goods as Thai products, and non-compliant foreign factories. The meeting focused on four key concerns: Nominee Companies: Actions have been taken against 861 offenders across high-risk sectors like tourism, real estate, and e-commerce, resulting in damages worth 15.3 billion baht from September 2022 to May 2023. Substandard Imports: Measures include heightened customs checks and a push for stringent compliance with VAT and product standards, tackling 57,739 violations and accumulating damages of over 2.3 billion baht. Falsely Labelled Thai Goods: Ongoing monitoring of 49 high-risk export items to the US, which will expand to 65 items soon, aims to prevent misrepresentation and maintain trade integrity. Non-Compliant Foreign Factories: The Industry Ministry reported 79 instances of legal non-compliance, focusing on improper waste management and unscrupulous import/export practices. The PM directed various government bodies to advance efforts, including legislative amendments to effectively manage and prosecute such infractions. Crime Customer Stabs Shopkeeper After QR Payment Refused for ฿10 Drink

The shocking incident occurred, at a small grocery store located near Denchai Condo in Bang Pu, Mueang district, Samut Prakan province. The suspect, identified as Mr. Zen Tan Pai Mu, a 24-year-old man from Myanmar, was swiftly arrested by local police at a nearby workers’ camp shortly after the attack. The victim, Ms. Prayad, recounted the terrifying ordeal and shared CCTV footage from the store to warn others. The footage clearly shows the suspect placing an item on the counter before suddenly lunging forward and stabbing her multiple times. Ms. Prayad bravely resisted, struggling with the attacker until she managed to flee and call the police. According to Ms. Prayad, the altercation began when the man entered her shop and attempted to buy a bottle of Krating Daeng energy drink for ฿10 using a mobile QR payment. She explained that her store only accepts QR payments for purchases of ฿50 or more. He left the store but returned a short while later, attempting again with a bottle of drinking water and receiving the same explanation. Shortly after, the man returned a third time wearing a face mask to hide his identity. He began placing several items, including white liquor and fabric softener, on the counter while pacing the store suspiciously. At one point, he entered the storage area, prompting Ms. Prayad to ask if she could help him find something. When he returned to the counter, he pretended to prepare a QR payment on his phone. Suddenly, he drew a knife and launched a surprise attack, stabbing Ms. Prayad in the face and both wrists before fleeing the scene. Though she was not seriously injured, Ms. Prayad admits to still being traumatised, especially due to the store’s proximity to a large migrant worker camp. She said the attacker had previously visited her store and had never raised suspicion. She hopes her story serves as a warning to other small business owners to remain vigilant.
