Two people were injured and 30 shops damaged after a fire broke out at the popular Chatuchak market in Bangkok on Sunday evening.

The fire broke out around 9.30pm and took approximately one hour to bring under control.

Two people were taken to hospital for treatment, although their condition is not thought to be life threatening.

Officials are now working to establish the cause of the blaze.

A video share by JS100 Radio showed large plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.

It´s all darn good ideas. Unfortunately the implementation and the possibility to educate, do not exist.

yes ....  they do have a strict no smoking policy .... I think it's an on the spot 2,000 baht fine, and I have never seen anyone smoking in the market so it is working.

And who knows, this could have been caused be an electrical fault ....

But they just need to visit each shop a couple of times a year with pamphlets and reassert the fire safety requirements. Not so hard to do.

Pretty common to see the shop owners bust out the cigarettes and smoke around closing time.

Can you imagine the outcome had that fire erupted on a busy weekend day?  Thousands of customers trying to flee a maze.  :shock1:
